B-LINE 4D22-240YZN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the yellow zinc chromate finish on this strut channel OK for outdoor use?
Yellow zinc chromate is a plated finish for dry indoor service. It handles normal interior humidity in mechanical rooms, ceilings and electrical rooms, but it is not a coating for exterior exposure, wet areas or corrosive environments. For outdoors or a washdown area, specify a hot dip galvanized or stainless strut instead.
2) Is 4Dimension strut the same as standard 1-5/8 inch Unistrut type channel?
No. Eaton B-Line 4Dimension is its own profile, and the 4D22 section is 2.12 by 2.12 inches rather than the 1-5/8 inch face of conventional strut. Fittings, nuts and clamps sized for 1-5/8 inch channel will not seat correctly in it, so order 4Dimension hardware to match.
3) What is the exact part number to order for the yellow zinc 20 foot 4Dimension channel?
Eaton B-Line part number 4D22-240YZN. Reading it out: 4D22 is the channel profile, 240 is the length in inches, and YZN is the yellow zinc finish. Quote that full number so you do not get a different length or a plain or galvanized finish.
4) Can I cut this 20 foot strut down on site?
Yes. 18 gauge steel channel cuts readily with a bandsaw, chop saw with a metal blade or a portable band saw. Cut ends lose the zinc chromate plating, so hit them with a cold galvanizing or zinc rich touch up if the run matters, and file the burr before handling.
