B-LINE 10104 RTSC – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the B-Line 10104 RTSC junction box be mounted outdoors?
Yes, within the limits of a NEMA 3R rating. The 10104 RTSC is a Type 3R enclosure, so it handles rain, sleet and snow on an exterior wall or rooftop, and it ships with a rain hood over the cover seam. 3R is not a washdown or hosedown rating, so keep it off surfaces that get pressure washed and don't submerge it. Carbon steel with a painted ANSI 61 grey finish.
2) What are the actual box dimensions on the B-Line 10104 RTSC enclosure?
10 inches high by 10 inches wide with a 4 inch depth, which is where the 10104 designation comes from. That 4 inch depth is the number to check before you commit: with terminal blocks or larger conductor bends it fills up fast. Weight is 6.4 lb, so a single installer can hang it.
3) Does the 10104 RTSC come with knockouts, or do I have to punch my own holes?
There are 5 knockouts in the bottom of the box. The other five sides are blank, so any side or back entry you need has to be punched or drilled in the field. Bottom entry is the right approach anyway on a 3R box: it keeps the conduit hubs out of the weather path.
4) Is the cover on this B-Line enclosure hinged or removable?
It's a screw cover, not hinged. The flanged cover lifts off entirely once you back out the plated screws, which means you need clear working space in front of the box and somewhere to set the cover down. If your crew needs to open the box repeatedly for adjustment or testing, a hinged-door enclosure is the better choice; a screw cover suits pull points, splices and junctions you close up and leave alone.
5) How does the B-Line 10104 RTSC attach to the wall?
Surface mount through embossed thru holes in the back of the box. The embossing stands the hole off the mounting surface so the enclosure interior stays sealed at the fastener, which is what keeps the 3R rating intact once it's hung. Anchors and screws are sized to your substrate and are not supplied with the box.
6) Is the 10104 RTSC junction box UL listed for a commercial spec job?
It carries UL 50, the standard covering enclosures for electrical equipment, which is the listing most inspectors and spec sheets look for on a junction or pull box. Made in the US.
7) How heavy a gauge is the steel on this B-Line RTSC box?
16 gauge carbon steel throughout. That's the usual body gauge for commercial junction and pull boxes of this size, stiff enough that the cover flange stays flat and the box doesn't oil-can when you tighten fasteners. Painted ANSI 61 grey, so touch-up on field-drilled holes is straightforward with a matching enamel.
8) Will the ANSI 61 grey on this enclosure match the other B-Line boxes already on my site?
ANSI 61 grey is the industry standard enclosure grey, so a run of 10104 RTSC boxes will read the same as other painted ANSI 61 gear on the wall. If you're standardizing a facility, note the finish as painted carbon steel rather than stainless, so exposed coastal or chemical environments will want a different material.
