B-LINE 12106 RTSC – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Eaton B-Line 12106 RTSC junction box be mounted outdoors?
Yes. The 12106 RTSC carries a NEMA Type 3R rating, so it is built for outdoor use where falling rain, sleet and external ice formation are the concern. It ships with a rain hood and plated screws, and the carbon steel body is painted ANSI 61 grey. A 3R enclosure is rain-tight, not dust-tight or washdown rated, so for hosedown or heavy dust go to a Type 4 or 4X enclosure instead.
2) Does the B-Line 12106 RTSC enclosure have knockouts, and where are they?
There are 5 knockouts, all in the bottom of the box. Nothing is pre-punched in the top, sides or back, which is correct practice for a 3R enclosure since top or side penetrations let water in. If you need side or top entry you will be drilling and adding a rain-tight hub yourself.
3) What are the actual box dimensions on the B-Line 12106 RTSC, and how much does it weigh?
The 12106 RTSC measures 12 inches high, 10 inches wide and 6 inches deep, and weighs 8.7 lb. That 6 inch depth is what usually decides it, since it sets how much room you have behind the screw cover for splices, terminal blocks or a small DIN rail.
4) How does the B-Line 12106 RTSC mount to a wall, and is mounting hardware included?
It is a surface-mount enclosure with embossed thru holes in the back pan, so you fasten straight through the back into the wall or strut. The embossed holes hold the box off the mounting surface. Fasteners and anchors are supplied by the installer, sized to your substrate.
5) Is the cover on the 12106 RTSC hinged or does it screw on?
Screw cover, flanged, held with plated screws. There is no hinge and no latch, so plan on both hands and a screwdriver every time it is opened. For an enclosure you open routinely, a hinged-door 3R is the better pick. For a pull box or splice point opened rarely, the screw cover is the cheaper, tighter option.
