B-LINE 666 RTSC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Eaton B-Line 666 RTSC junction box be mounted outdoors?
Yes. The 666 RTSC carries a NEMA 3R rating, so it is built for outdoor use where falling rain, sleet and ice are the concern. It adds a rain hood over the cover seam, and the enclosure is UL 50 listed. NEMA 3R is not a washdown or hosedown rating, so skip it for pressure-washed or dust-tight indoor process areas.
2) Does this B-Line junction box come with knockouts, or do I have to drill it?
Three knockouts are provided in the bottom of the box. There are no factory knockouts stated on the sides, top or back, so plan your conduit entries from below, or drill and use a listed fitting elsewhere. Bottom entry is the usual arrangement for a 3R enclosure anyway, since it keeps water out of the openings.
3) How do I fasten this enclosure to a wall, and do the mounting holes break the weather seal?
Mounting is surface style using embossed thru holes in the back of the box. The embossing raises the hole so water is not drawn into the enclosure at the fastener, which is why 3R boxes use them rather than plain drilled holes. Supply your own anchors or screws to suit the substrate; fasteners for the wall are not part of the box.
4) What are the actual box dimensions of the B-Line 666 RTSC enclosure?
It is a 6 x 6 x 6 inch cube: 6 inch height, 6 inch width, and 6 inch length/depth. Weight is 4 lb. That cube shape gives you real depth behind the cover for splices or a small relay, unlike the shallow 4 inch deep boxes people often compare it against.
5) How does the 666 RTSC cover attach, and can I get into it quickly?
It is a screw cover, flanged type, using plated screws. You need a driver to open it, which is fine for a splice box you rarely enter but slow if you are in and out often. For frequent access, look for a hinged or clamp-latched 3R enclosure instead of a screw-cover RTSC.
6) What is the 666 RTSC made of and will it hold up outside?
The body is 16 gauge carbon steel with a painted finish in ANSI 61 grey, and the cover screws are plated. Painted carbon steel is the standard choice for general outdoor and utility work. In coastal salt air or a chemical plant, specify a stainless or non-metallic 3R enclosure instead, and touch up any field-drilled hole in the paint to keep rust from starting.
7) Is the 666 RTSC a junction box or can I use it as a control enclosure with a panel?
It is sold as a Type 3/3R junction box, small single door style, for splices, pulls and terminations. No back panel, DIN rail or subpanel is included or stated, so if you are mounting components inside, plan on a separate panel kit or choose an enclosure supplied with one.
8) Will this grey enclosure match the other B-Line boxes already on my site?
The finish is ANSI 61 grey, the standard industrial grey used across most painted steel electrical enclosures, so it lines up visually with the rest of a typical gear and junction box installation. If you are standardizing a facility, the part to specify is B-Line 666 RTSC.
9) Is the Eaton B-Line 666 RTSC made in the USA?
Country of origin is the US. That matters on government, institutional and utility jobs carrying domestic-preference language, so it is worth noting on the submittal along with the UL 50 listing.
