B-LINE 8860 G NK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the 8860 G NK wireway rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. It's a NEMA 1 enclosure, which is indoor, dry location only, intended to keep personnel away from live parts and catch falling dirt. It has no gasket and the cover is held by plated screws. For a rooftop, exterior wall, or washdown area you need a NEMA 3R or NEMA 4 raintight wireway instead.
2) Does this wireway come with knockouts for conduit, or do I have to drill it?
No knockouts. The 8860 G NK is the NK (no knockout) version, so every side and end is solid 14 gauge steel and you punch your own openings where the conduit actually lands. That's the version to buy when your conduit entries don't line up with a factory pattern. If you'd rather not punch holes in the field, order the knockout version of the same 8 x 8 trough instead.
3) What else do I need to order to complete a wireway run with this 8 x 8 trough?
The 8860 G NK is a straight 60 inch section only. A finished run also needs connectors between sections, end plates to close off the ends, and any elbows, tees, or hanger hardware the layout calls for, plus mounting fasteners for the thru holes. All of those are ordered separately and must match the same 8 x 8 inch trough size.
4) Is this a screw cover or a hinged cover wireway?
Screw cover. The full length cover lifts off completely and is fastened with plated screws, so you get unobstructed access to the whole 60 inch run for pulling conductors. The tradeoff is that you're handling loose screws and a loose cover every time you open it. If the run will be opened often for troubleshooting, a hinged cover trough is the easier choice.
5) Is the Eaton B-Line 8860 wireway approved for an inspected commercial job?
It's CSA Certified, which is what an inspector looks for on a wireway in Canada and is accepted on many US commercial specs as well. The enclosure type is NEMA 1, so the approval covers indoor dry locations.
6) Can I splice conductors inside this wireway, or is it only for pulling through?
An 8 x 8 inch trough this size is commonly used for splices and taps as well as straight pulls, and the removable screw cover along the full 60 inches makes that practical. Keep in mind the NEC limits splices and taps to 75 percent of the wireway's cross sectional area at any point, which is 48 square inches here.
7) Will this wireway match the gray gear already in my electrical room?
It's finished in ANSI 61 gray, the standard gray used on most commercial panelboards, switchboards, and enclosures, so it blends with existing gear rather than standing out. Body is steel at 14 gauge.
