B-LINE 6648-12WT – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What are the actual inside dimensions of the B-Line 6648-12WT wiring trough?
The 6648-12WT is a 6 x 6 x 48 inch trough: 6 inch height, 6 inch width, 48 inch length. That 6 x 6 cross section is the figure electricians size conductor fill against, and the 48 inch run is the standard stock length for tying two panels or gutter sections together.
2) Is this B-Line trough rated for a washdown or dusty plant environment?
It's a NEMA 12 enclosure, so it's built for indoor use against falling dirt, circulating dust, lint, and dripping or splashing non-corrosive liquids. It is not a NEMA 4 or 4X washdown rating, so direct hosedown, outdoor exposure, or corrosive atmospheres call for a different trough.
3) How does this wiring trough mount to a wall or strut?
Mounting feet are welded to the outside of the body, so you fasten through the feet and the trough stands off the surface rather than sitting flush. Because the feet are external, the interior is clear of mounting hardware and there are no added holes through the enclosure wall to compromise the NEMA 12 seal.
4) What makes this trough NEMA 12 rated rather than just a plain gutter?
Two things do it. The gasket is a seamless poured in-place type, so there's no cut-and-butt joint in the seal, and the hinged cover clamps down onto it with heavy-duty hinges and screw clamps. That combination is what keeps dust and dripping liquid out along the full 48 inch cover edge.
5) Does the cover come off completely, or is it hinged?
Hinged. The cover swings open on heavy-duty hinges and is held shut with screw clamps, so nothing gets set down on a dirty floor or dropped into a live gutter while you're pulling conductors. It stays captive on the body.
6) Is this trough acceptable for work in Canada?
It carries CSA C22.2 certification, which is the Canadian standard series for electrical enclosures, so it can be specified on Canadian projects as well as US ones.
7) Does the B-Line 12WT trough come with knockouts, or do I have to punch my own openings?
The 12WT is a seamless-gasketed NEMA 12 body with no factory openings called out, so conduit entries are field-punched where your runs land. Punch to suit and use gasketed hub fittings if you want to hold the NEMA 12 rating at each penetration. The 14 gauge steel wall punches cleanly with a hydraulic knockout set.
