Emtek 1164-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1164 multi point trim include the multi point lock body?
No. The Emtek 1164 is trim only: plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box has to be sourced separately, either from the door manufacturer or as a separate lock. Plan on having the lock body in hand before ordering trim so the center-to-center and handing match.
2) What is the center-to-center measurement on the Emtek 1164 trim, and will it line up with my existing multi point lock?
Center-to-center is 3-5/8 inches, measured between the handle spindle and the cylinder hole, with the cylinder position below the handle. Measure that dimension on your existing lock body before ordering; if your lock uses a different spacing, this plate will not line up.
3) Which door brands does this Emtek multi point trim reference for fit?
Emtek lists the Configuration #1 trim against Atrium, G-U, KML by Andersen, Andersen, Marvin Integrity, Paddock Lockmaster, and Superior multi point systems. Those are the lock platforms the #1 configuration is set up to match.
4) What does non-keyed fixed handle outside, operating handle inside actually mean on a patio door?
It means the exterior handle is a rigid pull that does not retract anything, while the interior lever operates the multi point lock. There is no key cylinder in this trim. That setup is for the semi-active (inactive) leaf of a pair of swinging patio doors, the one you normally leave shut and only open when you need the full width.
5) Do I have to specify handing and a lever style when ordering the Emtek 1164?
Both are required choices. Handing is right hand or left hand, and the lever is picked from ten Sandcast Bronze styles: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, and Yuma. There is also an optional door thickness entry if your slab is outside the standard range. Get handing off the actual door swing, not off the neighboring leaf.
6) If I need a keyed exterior handle on the active door, is the 1164 the right trim?
No. The 1164 has no cylinder and a fixed outside handle, which suits the semi-active leaf only. For the active leaf you want a keyed configuration with a cylinder prep below the handle. Order the keyed active-door trim in the same Sandcast Bronze finish and lever style so the pair matches. Note that the cylinder classification on this platform is American.
7) What finishes does the Emtek 1164 Sandcast Bronze trim come in?
Three: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB), and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). All three are from the Sandcast Bronze collection, so they will match other Emtek sandcast levers and pulls in the same finish elsewhere in the house.
8) Will a 2 x 10 inch plate cover the prep on my patio door stile?
The plates are rectangular and measure 2 by 10 inches, so the stile needs at least 2 inches of flat face width to seat the plate cleanly. On narrow aluminum-style stiles that is tight, so measure the flat before committing. Material is sandcast bronze throughout.
9) Does the Emtek 1164 handle sag over time like older multi point levers?
No. Emtek now builds a spring assist into every multi point lock trim, which returns the lever to neutral and keeps the interior handle from drooping. That was a common complaint on earlier patio door trim and it is addressed in the current production sets.
10) Can I use the Emtek 1164 on a commercial entrance?
It is classified residential. The 1164 is swinging patio door hardware for the semi-active leaf on a home French or patio door set. For a commercial opening with traffic and code requirements, look at a Grade 1 mortise or exit device platform instead.
11) Is there any electronic or smart lock option in the Emtek 1164 trim?
No, the 1164 is fully mechanical. Nothing about it is wired or battery powered, so there is no keypad, no motor, and no power prep to run through the door.
