Emtek 1524-FB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Emtek 1524 multi point trim include the mortise lock body, or is it handles only?
Trim only. The 1524 set ships with the plates and handles, and the multi point mortise lock box is not included. You order the lock gear separately to match your door, then the 1524 dresses it out. Plan on an existing or separately purchased multi point lock body before scheduling the install.
2) What does Door Configuration #5 mean on Emtek multi point trim?
Configuration #5 is the semi-active (inactive) leaf of a pair of swinging patio doors. Outside gets a fixed, non-keyed handle that does not retract anything, and the inside gets an operating lever that throws and retracts the multi point gear. There is no key cylinder on the 1524, so if you need a keyed exterior on that leaf, it is the wrong configuration.
3) Will the Emtek 1524 line up with my existing multi point lock's handle and cylinder spacing?
The 1524 plates are drilled 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the spindle and the cylinder hole, with the cylinder position below the handle and the prep sized for a Euro profile cylinder. If your lock gear uses that 3-5/8 inch below-handle CTC with a Euro cylinder, the plates land on it. Gear with a different CTC, or with the cylinder above the lever, will not line up.
4) Which patio door brands does this Emtek multi point trim work with?
Emtek lists this multi point trim against gear from Crestline, Hoppe, Hurd, KFV, Kolbe & Kolbe, Lincoln, Loewen, Paddock Lockmaster, Peachtree, Semco, Sierra, Oknoplast, Pacific, Signature, Simpson, Therma-Tru, Vetter, Willmar, Windsor and Weathershield. Those are reference door manufacturers, so still confirm your leaf is the semi-active one and that the gear uses 3-5/8 inch center-to-center spacing.
5) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1524 trim?
Four things. Finish: Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze or Tumbled White Bronze. Lever style, from ten Sandcast Bronze options (Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, Yuma). Handing, right or left. And door thickness, which is an optional entry for your slab. Lever and handing are required choices, not defaults.
6) Is handing important on the Emtek 1524, or is the trim reversible?
Handing matters. The 1524 is ordered as either Right Hand or Left Hand and is not field reversible, so determine the swing of the semi-active leaf before placing the order. On a pair of patio doors the active and semi-active leaves take opposite hands.
7) Can I match this arched bronze trim to the rest of the door hardware in the house?
The 1524 belongs to Emtek's Sandcast Bronze collection and takes any Sandcast Bronze lever, so it can be matched to other Sandcast Bronze levers and knobs elsewhere in the house. Plate style is Arched, sized 2 by 10 inches, in cast bronze. Keeping the finish consistent (Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze or Tumbled White Bronze) is what makes the patio doors read as part of the same set.
8) Do I need to buy a cylinder for the Emtek 1524?
No. The 1524 is a non-keyed trim, so there is no keyed exterior on this leaf and no cylinder to order for it. The plate is still prepped in the Euro profile pattern below the handle to clear gear that carries a cylinder; the keying lives on the active leaf instead.
9) Is the Emtek 1524 trim suitable for a commercial opening like a hotel or office entry?
Emtek classifies the 1524 as residential swinging patio door hardware. It carries no commercial grade classification, so for an opening that has to meet commercial cycle or egress requirements, specify commercial-rated hardware instead. It is a fit for single-family, custom home and similar residential patio pairs.
10) Will the interior lever on this Emtek patio trim sag over time?
Emtek builds a Spring Assist function into the multi point trim, which returns the lever to neutral and is there specifically to stop handles drooping. That is the common complaint on tall interior patio levers, and it is addressed at the trim rather than relying on the lock gear's spring.
11) Is the Emtek 1524 an electronic or smart lock trim?
Strictly mechanical. The 1524 has no electronic components, no wiring and no keypad, just the plates and levers driving the multi point gear. If you want an electrified or keypad entry on the patio pair, this trim will not provide it.
