Emtek 1224-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will Emtek 1224 trim fit my existing multi point patio door lock?
It is built to the 3-5/8 inch center-to-center handle-to-cylinder-hole spacing used on multi point systems from BiltBest, G-U, Hurd (Energy Saver) and Andersen. Measure your door's existing spacing and compare to 3-5/8 inches before ordering, since other multi point makers use different centers.
2) What does Door Configuration #2 mean on Emtek multi point trim?
Configuration #2 is the semi-active (inactive) leaf of a pair of patio doors. It is non-keyed, with a fixed dummy-style handle on the exterior and a working lever inside to throw and retract the multi point lock. If you are trimming the active door that needs a key outside, Configuration #2 is the wrong one to order.
3) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1224?
Three things. Handing, right or left. Lever style, chosen from Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton or Yuma. And finish: Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze or Tumbled White Bronze. There is also an optional door thickness field so the trim is set up for your slab.
4) Where does the cylinder hole sit on this Emtek arched multi point plate?
Above the handle, sized for an American-style cylinder. On Configuration #2 the exterior side is non-keyed, so the plate geometry matches the rest of the arched family visually while the active door in the pair carries the key.
5) Do the levers on these patio door trims sag over time?
Emtek multi point trim now ships with a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral, which is what prevents the drooping handle you see on older patio door trim. It is built into the trim, no separate part to order.
6) How big are the plates, and will they cover my door stile?
The arched plates measure 2 x 10 inches. On a narrow-stile patio door, check that you have at least 2 inches of flat face width alongside the glass stop for the plate to sit on.
7) Can I match the active door of the pair with the same look?
Yes. The arched sandcast bronze plate style and the ten lever options carry across Emtek's multi point trim configurations, so you can pair the non-keyed Configuration #2 set on the semi-active leaf with a keyed configuration on the active leaf in the same finish and lever. Order both in the same finish code, Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze or Tumbled White Bronze.
8) Is sandcast bronze trim suitable for a commercial entrance?
Emtek lists the sandcast bronze collection as residential. It is a solid bronze casting intended for swinging patio doors in homes, rustic and custom-door work, not for high-traffic commercial openings where a Grade 1 mortise or exit device would be specified.
9) Is this an electronic or smart patio door handle set?
No, the 1224 is fully mechanical trim. No wiring, no motor, no battery compartment; the inside lever drives the multi point lock mechanically.
