Emtek 1824-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1824 multi point trim include the multi point lock itself?
No. The Emtek 1824 is trim only, meaning the plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box has to be ordered separately, so if you are building a complete opening you need the lock body from the door manufacturer or supplier as well.
2) What does Door Configuration #8 mean on Emtek multi point trim?
Configuration #8 is the non-keyed setup for a semi-active (inactive) door leaf on a pair of swinging patio doors. The outside handle is fixed, and only the inside handle operates the lock. There is no cylinder, so the second leaf is operated from indoors only, which is exactly what you want on the non-traffic leaf of a French pair.
3) Will the Emtek 1824 trim line up with my existing multi point lock prep?
The handle-to-cylinder-hole spacing is 5-1/4 inch center-to-center, with the cylinder position above the handle. Multi point locks are built to specific CTC spacings, so measure from the spindle hole to the cylinder hole in your lock body or door prep and confirm it reads 5-1/4 inch before ordering. Emtek lists Neuma Doors as a reference door manufacturer for this trim.
4) This trim is non-keyed, so what do I use on the active leaf of the same French door pair?
Config #8 covers only the semi-active leaf; it has no cylinder and no key access. The active leaf needs a keyed Emtek multi point trim in a different door configuration, ordered in the same Sandcast Bronze finish, arched plate style and lever so the pair matches. The 1824's cylinder classification is American, so a keyed companion trim in this family takes an American-standard mortise cylinder.
5) Do I have to specify handing and lever style when I order Emtek 1824 trim?
Both are required choices. Handing is right hand or left hand, and the lever must be picked from the ten Sandcast Bronze styles: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton and Yuma. There is also an optional door thickness entry, so have the actual leaf thickness measured before you place the order.
6) What finishes does the Emtek 1824 arched sandcast bronze trim come in?
Three: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB) and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). All three are Sandcast Bronze, a solid bronze substrate that develops a living patina, so if you are matching other openings in the same house order all the trim in one finish code from the same collection.
7) How big is the plate on the Emtek arched multi point trim?
The arched plate measures 2 x 10 inches. That is a narrow escutcheon, so it suits the stile widths typical of swinging patio and French doors, but check your lite frame or glass edge leaves at least 2 inches of flat stile face for the plate to seat on.
8) Does the outside handle on Config #8 do anything at all?
No, it is a fixed pull. On the semi-active leaf the exterior handle does not retract or operate anything; it is there as a grip and for appearance. All operation happens from the inside handle, which does include Emtek's spring assist so the lever returns to horizontal instead of sagging over time.
9) Is there an electronic or keypad version of this Emtek multi point trim?
The 1824 is fully mechanical, no electronics. If you want electronic access on a multi point patio door, this trim is not the one, and the semi-active leaf would not be the leaf to electrify anyway since the active leaf carries the keyed side.
