Emtek 1624-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1624 multi point trim include the multi point lock mechanism?
No. The Emtek 1624 is trim only: plates and handles for a swinging patio door. The multi point mortise lock box has to be sourced separately, so you need to know which multi point lock is already in the door (or which one you are specifying) before ordering this trim.
2) What does Emtek door configuration #6 mean, and is it right for my semi-active French door leaf?
Configuration #6 on the 1624 is the non-keyed setup: a fixed (dummy) handle on the exterior with an operating lever on the interior. That is the arrangement used on the semi-active leaf of a pair of swinging patio doors, where the leaf is operated from inside only and no cylinder is needed. If you need a keyed exterior that unlocks from outside, this is the wrong configuration.
3) What center-to-center spacing does this Emtek multi point trim use?
The plates are drilled 3-5/8 inches center to center, which is the spacing between the handle spindle and the lower hole. Your existing multi point lock box has to match that 3-5/8 inch spacing for the plate to land on the prep. Plates measure 2 x 10 inches in the arched style.
4) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Emtek 1624?
Yes, handing is required. You pick Right Hand (RH) or Left Hand (LH), because the fixed exterior handle and the operating interior lever are oriented to the leaf. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right it is right hand. You also specify the lever style and, optionally, the door thickness.
5) Why does my current patio door lever sag, and does this Emtek trim fix it?
Sagging levers come from a worn or unsupported spring return in the trim. Every current Emtek multi point lock trim, including the 1624, ships with a Spring Assist function that returns the lever to neutral and eliminates the sag. If you are replacing tired trim on a swinging patio door purely for that reason, this addresses it.
6) Which lever styles can I get on this sandcast bronze arched multi point trim?
Ten sandcast bronze levers pair with the 1624 arched plates: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton and Yuma. Any sandcast bronze lever from the collection can be ordered with it, so you can match levers already used on interior doors in the same house.
7) Is the Emtek 1624 rated for commercial entrance use?
It is a residential product. Emtek lists the sandcast bronze multi point trim as residential, intended for swinging patio doors on homes. For a high traffic commercial entrance you want commercial grade door hardware instead.
8) Where does the cylinder go on Emtek multi point trim, and what cylinder type is used?
On Emtek's sandcast bronze multi point trim the cylinder position is below the handle and the cylinder classification is American. The 1624 itself is the non-keyed configuration, so no cylinder is used on this trim; the keyed active leaf trim is where that American cylinder below the handle applies.
9) Is there an electronic or keypad version of this Emtek multi point trim?
No. The 1624 is mechanical trim only, with no electronic option. It is a fixed exterior handle with an interior operating lever, driven by the separate multi point lock box.
