1) Does the Emtek 11A4 multi point trim include the mortise lock body?
No. The 11A4 is trim only, and the set covers plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box has to be ordered separately, so if you are replacing a full assembly you need the gearbox and rods from your door manufacturer as well.
2) What does the non-keyed fixed handle outside function mean on a patio door?
Outside you get a fixed, non-operating handle, and inside you get a working lever that retracts the latch and drives the multi point rods. That makes the 11A4 the semi-active (inactive) leaf of a double patio door, or a door you never enter through from outside. If you need to key in from outside, this is the wrong trim.
3) Do I have to specify handing on Emtek multi point trim?
Yes, handing is a required selection: right hand (RH) or left hand (LH). Lever style is required too, and there is a field for door thickness so the spindle and screw pack suit your panel. Get the hand wrong on the semi-active leaf and the lever throws the wrong way.
4) Will any Emtek lever work with the 11A4 trim?
Any Emtek brass lever can be ordered on it, and the lever choice is required at order time. Options run from the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar families in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble, through Athena, Helios, Hermes, Luzern, Poseidon and Stuttgart, to traditional shapes like Cortina, Milano, Turino, Rope, Rustic and Santa Fe.
5) Can I still use a cylinder with the Emtek 11A4?
The plate is prepped for an American-standard cylinder positioned below the handle, but the 11A4 itself is a non-keyed function, so there is no key control from the outside. Pick a keyed configuration if the opening needs an exterior key override.
6) What size are the plates on the Emtek 11A4, and will they cover my old trim?
Plates measure 1-1/2 x 11 inches in the Modern (contemporary) profile. That is a narrow escutcheon sized for patio door stiles, so it will cover a slim prep but not a wide old plate footprint. Compare it against the screw holes and cutout on the door before you pull the existing set.
