1) Does the Emtek 15A4 multi point trim include the multi point lock body?
No. The 15A4 is trim only. You get the plates and handles; the multi point mortise lock box has to be ordered separately. Buy it for a door that already has a multi point lock in it, or pair it with the correct lock body for your door manufacturer.
2) Which door on a French pair does the Emtek 15A4 trim go on?
The semi-active (inactive) leaf. Outside it has a fixed handle that does not operate anything; inside it has an operating handle that throws and retracts the multi point lock. That is Emtek's Door Configuration #5. The active leaf, the one people walk through daily, needs a keyed configuration instead.
3) Will the Emtek 15A4 fit my Therma-Tru or Kolbe swinging patio door?
The 15A4 plate is drilled to a 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the handle and the euro cylinder hole, with the cylinder below the handle, and Emtek references it against Crestline, Hoppe, Hurd, KFV, Kolbe & Kolbe, Lincoln, Loewen, Paddock Lockmaster, Peachtree, Semco, Sierra, Oknoplast, Pacific, Signature, Simpson, Therma-Tru, Vetter, Willmar, Windsor and Weathershield lock systems. Measure your existing door from the handle spindle to the center of the cylinder hole. If it is not 3-5/8 inches, this plate will not line up.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering Emtek 15A4 multi point trim?
Three things beyond the finish. Lever style is required, and the 15A4 accepts any Emtek brass lever, 51 of them, from the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar bar levers in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble through to Athena, Poseidon, Milano, Rope, Rustic and Arts & Crafts. Handing is required, right or left. Door thickness is an optional entry so the spindle is cut right for your slab. Finish is the seventh: Oil Rubbed Bronze US10B, Polished Nickel Lifetime US14, Satin Nickel US15, Flat Black US19, Polished Chrome US26, Unlacquered Brass US3NL, or Satin Brass US4.
5) Do I need to know the handing before ordering Emtek 15A4 trim?
Yes, handing is a required selection, right hand or left hand, and it is not field-reversible on this trim. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right it is right hand. Order the semi-active leaf's handing, not the active leaf's.
6) Does the Emtek 15A4 non-keyed trim take a euro cylinder?
The plate is cut for a euro profile cylinder positioned below the handle, but the 15A4 itself is the non-keyed configuration, so no cylinder or key is supplied with it. On a semi-active leaf the keying normally lives on the active door.
7) How much room does the Emtek 15A4 plate need on the door stile?
The plate measures 1-1/2 x 11 inches, so the stile has to be at least 1-1/2 inches of flat face where the plate lands, with 11 inches of clear run for it. On narrow-stile glass patio doors, check the glass stop clearance before you commit.
8) Can I match the Emtek 15A4 to the other door hardware in the house?
Across a fleet of openings the match points are finish and lever. The 15A4 comes in seven finishes, Oil Rubbed Bronze US10B, Polished Nickel Lifetime US14, Satin Nickel US15, Flat Black US19, Polished Chrome US26, Unlacquered Brass US3NL and Satin Brass US4, and takes any Emtek brass lever, so you can carry the same lever and finish from the passage sets onto the patio door.
