Emtek 1274-US15 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1274 multi point trim include the mortise lock body, or is it just the handles and plates?
Trim only. The Emtek 1274 set includes the plates and handles, and the multi point mortise lock box is not included. If your door does not already have a working multi point gear in it, you need to source that separately from the door manufacturer or gear supplier.
2) What does Door Configuration #2 mean on Emtek multi point trim?
Configuration #2 is the semi-active (inactive) leaf of a swinging patio door pair. The outside gets a non-keyed fixed handle, which is a pull that does not retract anything, and the inside gets an operating handle that runs the multi point gear. The active leaf, the one people use every day, takes a keyed configuration instead.
3) Will the Emtek 1274 trim line up with my existing door's handle and cylinder holes?
The 1274 plate is drilled on a 3-5/8 inch center-to-center spacing between the handle spindle and the cylinder hole, with the cylinder position above the handle, and it takes an American style cylinder. Emtek lists this configuration against BiltBest, G-U, Hurd (Energy Saver) and Andersen doors. Measure your existing plate's hole spacing; if it is not 3-5/8 inch CTC with the cylinder up top, this is the wrong trim set.
4) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Emtek 1274?
Yes, handing is required, right hand or left hand. On a patio door pair the semi-active leaf takes the opposite hand from the active leaf, so determine the hand at the door itself rather than assuming it matches the other panel.
5) Why does the Emtek 1274 order form ask for door thickness if the lock body isn't included?
Door thickness sets the spindle length that ties the inside operating handle to the gear in the door. It is an optional entry on the 1274, but supplying the actual measured thickness of your patio door panel avoids a spindle that is short of engagement or proud of the plate.
6) Can I pick my own lever style on the Emtek 1274 trim?
Lever style is a required selection, and the 1274 accepts any Emtek brass lever. The list runs from contemporary bar shapes (L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble) through cast levers like Athena, Helios, Hermes, Luzern, Poseidon, Stuttgart, Argos, Aston, Basel, Geneva, Mercury, Triton, Cortina, Milano, Merrimack, Turino, Coventry, Elan, Ribbon & Reed, Rope, Rustic, Santa Fe, Wembley, Arts & Crafts and Hammered.
7) What finishes does the Emtek Concord multi point trim come in, and can I match the rest of my door hardware?
Eight finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and French Antique (US7). These are Emtek's standard brass collection codes, so the trim matches Emtek entry sets and levers in the same finish elsewhere in the house. Unlacquered brass is a living finish and will patina.
8) Is the Emtek 1274 suitable for a commercial entrance?
No. Emtek lists the 1274 Concord multi point trim as residential hardware, intended for swinging patio doors in homes. For a commercial storefront or a code-required egress opening, specify a commercial mortise or exit device instead.
9) Is the Emtek 1274 keyed, and can it be part of a master key system?
The 1274 is the non-keyed configuration, so no cylinder is furnished with it and it cannot be keyed. The plate is prepped for an American style cylinder above the handle if the opening later needs one, but for a keyed patio door you want the keyed configuration on the active leaf instead.
10) Will the Emtek 1274 handle sag over time like my old patio door lever?
Sagging levers are the common complaint on patio door trim, and Emtek addresses it here: the 1274 multi point trim includes a spring assist that returns the lever to the neutral horizontal position. The plate itself is solid brass, 1-1/2 by 11 inches, in the Concord style.
11) Is the Emtek 1274 an electronic or smart lock?
Purely mechanical. The 1274 Concord trim is a non-electronic handle and plate set for a manually operated multi point gear, with no wiring, motor, or keypad involved.
