1) Will the Emtek 1474 trim work on my Marvin patio door multipoint lock?
The 1474 Concord trim is built for the common swinging patio door multipoint systems, and Emtek references it against Ashland, G-U, Caradco, JELD-WEN, JELD-WEN Custom Collection (formerly Pozzi), Marvin, PGT, Premium Collection (formerly Norco) and Weathershield doors. The number to check on your door is the center-to-center spacing between the cylinder hole and the spindle: this trim is drilled at 3-5/8 inches, and it is a Door Configuration #4 trim. If your existing plate measures a different center-to-center, a different Emtek configuration is the one you want.
2) Does the Emtek 1474 multi point trim include the mortise lock body?
No. The 1474 is trim only: plates and handles. The multipoint mortise lock box that drives the rods has to be ordered separately, or reused if the one in your door is sound. Buyers replacing worn or dated hardware on an existing patio door usually only need the trim, since the lock body stays in the stile.
3) What does the Emtek 1474 semi-active door function actually do, and where does it go on a French door pair?
This is the inactive (semi-active) leaf trim of a French door pair. Outside you get a fixed handle that does not turn, purely something to pull on; inside you get an operating handle that throws and retracts the multipoint rods. There is no key cylinder in it. That means the semi-active leaf gets locked and unlocked from inside only, which is the normal arrangement: the active leaf carries the keyed trim, and this leaf stays secured until someone opens it from the interior.
4) I need keyed entry on my patio door. Is the Emtek 1474 the right trim?
Not on the door you unlock from outside. The 1474 has no cylinder in it, so there is no way to key the exterior side. Use it on the semi-active leaf of a pair and order a keyed Emtek multipoint trim in the same Concord style and finish for the active leaf. On the keyed trims in this family the cylinder sits above the handle, so the two plates line up visually across the pair.
5) What do I have to specify when ordering Emtek 1474 Concord trim?
Four things. Handing, right or left, which is required and not field-reversible on the order form. Lever style, also required, with 51 Emtek levers to choose from including the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar bar levers in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble, plus the classic patterns like Cortina, Milano, Rope, Wembley and Arts and Crafts. The Concord plate measures 1-1/2 x 11 inches. That is a narrow plate, so it will sit inside the stile on most patio and French doors but it will not hide a wider footprint left by a previous escutcheon. Hold a 1-1/2 by 11 inch rectangle over the existing marks before you commit. If your old plate was wider, look at an Emtek Concord or other Emtek multipoint plate in a larger size rather than filling and refinishing the stile.

Spring assist is built into every one of these multipoint trims now.
