Emtek 1574-US15 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Emtek 1574 multi point trim actually include, and do I still need the lock body?
The 1574 is trim only: plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box is not included, so you order that separately (or reuse the one already in the door). You pick a lever style and the handing when you order, and the plates come in eight finishes. If you're replacing worn handles on a patio door that already has a working multi point lock, trim only is exactly what you want.
2) What does Door Configuration #5 mean on Emtek multi point trim?
Configuration #5 on the 1574 is the non-keyed setup: a fixed (dummy) handle on the outside and an operating lever on the inside. There's no key cylinder in the plate. That's the semi-active leaf of a French or patio door pair, the one you don't normally walk through, where the multi point throws from the inside only. If you need the outside to unlock with a key, this is the wrong configuration.
3) Will Emtek Concord trim fit my Therma-Tru or Hoppe multi point patio door?
The Concord plate is built to the common European multi point pattern and Emtek references it against Crestline, Hoppe, Hurd, KFV, Kolbe & Kolbe, Lincoln, Loewen, Paddock Lockmaster, Peachtree, Semco, Sierra, Oknoplast, Pacific, Signature, Simpson, Therma-Tru, Vetter, Willmar, Windsor and Weathershield doors. The dimension that decides it is the 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the handle spindle and the cylinder hole. Measure that on your existing plate; if it's 3-5/8, the holes line up.
4) My old patio door plate has the keyhole below the handle - is that what this Emtek trim is?
Yes. The Concord 1574 plate is laid out with the cylinder position below the handle, on 3-5/8 inch centers, sized for a Euro profile cylinder. If your existing plate has the cylinder above the handle, or on a different spacing, the holes won't line up and you need a different configuration. On this particular trim the outside plate is non-keyed anyway, so the cylinder prep matters mostly for matching the plate to the door's existing bore.
5) Do I have to specify handing when ordering Emtek 1574 trim?
Handing is required on the order, right or left hand. It's a lever set on a plate, so the lever has to point the correct way and the inside operating handle has to sit on the right side of the opening. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right, it's right hand. Get it wrong and the lever points into the jamb.
6) What else do I have to pick when I order the Emtek 1574 besides the finish?
Three choices beyond finish. Lever style is required, and Emtek offers 51 of them on brass trim, from the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar families with faceted, hammered, knurled, Tribeca, straight knurled and white marble treatments, through to the Athena, Helios, Hermes, Luzern, Poseidon, Stuttgart and the classic Cortina, Milano, Turino, Coventry, Rope and Rustic levers. Handing is required. Door thickness is an optional entry, so give it if you know it. Finish runs across eight options: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and French Antique (US7).
7) How big is the Emtek Concord multi point plate - will it cover the marks left by my old trim?
The Concord plate measures 1-1/2 x 11 inches. That's a narrow, tall escutcheon sized for the stile of a swinging patio or French door. If the plate you're pulling off is wider than 1-1/2 inches, expect finish marks or unpainted stile to show at the edges, and plan on touch-up.
8) My patio door lever droops - does new Emtek trim fix a sagging handle?
It does. Every current Emtek multi point trim, the 1574 included, ships with the spring assist function, which returns the lever to neutral and stops the handle sagging. Sag is usually the trim's return spring giving out rather than the multi point lock body failing, which is why replacing trim alone often solves it.
9) Is Emtek 1574 multi point trim rated for a commercial entry?
The 1574 is a residential product. It's solid brass swinging patio door hardware for houses and residential units, not something to spec for a high-traffic commercial entrance. For a multi-family or hospitality property, it works on unit patio doors; for a lobby or main entry, you want commercial-grade hardware instead.
10) Can I match Emtek 1574 trim to the other door hardware in the house?
Straightforward to match. The Concord trim is brass substrate in eight finishes that use standard US finish codes, so Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15) or Polished Chrome (US26) on the patio door line up with the same codes on knobs and levers elsewhere. Two to note: Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) is left uncoated and will patina over time, while Polished Brass Lifetime (US3) holds its shine. Pick one or the other across a project, not both.
11) Is the Emtek 1574 an electronic or smart lock trim?
No. The 1574 is fully mechanical trim, no electronics and no keyway in the plate. The inside lever throws the multi point lock; the outside handle is fixed. If you're after keyless entry on a patio door, this isn't the part.
