Emtek 1312-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1312 multi point trim include the multi point lock body, or do I need to order that separately?
Trim only. The 1312 set gives you the plates and handles; the multi point mortise lock box is a separate order. If you are replacing a patio door handle set and the gearbox in the door is still good, this is exactly what you want. If the gearbox itself has failed, the trim will not fix it.
2) What is the center-to-center spacing on the Emtek 1312 arched trim, and how do I know it matches my door?
4-1/8 inches center to center, with the cylinder hole above the handle. That pair of facts is what decides fit: measure from the center of the handle spindle to the center of the cylinder bore on your existing plate, and if it is 4-1/8 inches with the key hole on top, the 1312 lines up. Emtek lists this as Door Configuration #3, which is the shorthand for that hole pattern.
3) Will the Emtek 1312 trim work on an Andersen patio door?
Andersen is the reference door manufacturer for the 1312 trim. Match on the hole pattern rather than the brand name alone: it is built to the Configuration #3 layout, 4-1/8 inch center to center with the cylinder above the lever. Andersen has used more than one multi point configuration over the years, so pull your existing plate and check that spacing before you commit.
4) What door thickness and backset does the Emtek 1312 multi point trim fit?
Doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches, with an adjustable backset of 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches and a 2-1/8 inch cross bore. Those are the two standard residential backsets, so the trim covers either without a special order. There is also a door thickness field on the order form if your slab needs to be called out.
5) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Emtek 1312 passage trim?
Handing is required, right hand or left hand, and it is not field reversible on the order form, so get it right the first time. Stand outside the door, on the side that swings away from you: if the hinges are on the right it is right hand. On a patio slider or swinging patio pair, hand the active leaf.
6) Is the Emtek 1312 keyed, and can I still lock the door with it?
Non-keyed passage. The 1312 trim operates the multi point latching through the lever but carries no cylinder and no key function, so it will not lock. If you need the door to key from the outside, you need a keyed version of the Configuration #3 trim instead, not this one. Note the plate is still bored for a cylinder above the handle, which is how the keyed variants of the same configuration are built.
7) Which lever styles can I put on the Emtek 1312 sandcast bronze trim?
Ten sandcast bronze levers pair with the 1312 plate: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton and Yuma. Lever choice is a required selection, not an accessory bought later, and any Sandcast Bronze lever in the line can go on this plate. That is how you match a patio door to the interior levers already in the house.
8) What finishes does the Emtek 1312 sandcast bronze trim come in, and will they match my other Emtek hardware?
Three sandcast bronze finishes: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB) and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). These are the Sandcast Bronze collection finishes, so they match other sandcast bronze Emtek pieces rather than the brass or stainless lines. Sandcast bronze is a living finish with visible casting texture, so expect variation piece to piece rather than a uniform plated look.
9) How big are the Emtek 1312 arched plates, and will they cover the old escutcheon holes on my patio door?
The arched plates measure 1-1/2 by 11 inches. That is a narrow, tall plate, so it covers a standard multi point trim cutout but will not hide a wider previous escutcheon. Measure the exposed area on your slab against 1-1/2 by 11 before pulling the old set off, especially if the door has been refinished around the existing plate.
10) Is the Emtek 1312 multi point trim suitable for a commercial building or an apartment turn?
Emtek lists the 1312 as residential hardware. For single family homes, condos and high end multi family patio doors it is on spec. For a commercial opening in a code-regulated building, this is not the line to standardize on. It is solid brass with a bronze substrate, cast rather than stamped, which is why it holds up on a heavily used patio door in a home.
11) Do the Emtek multi point levers sag over time?
The 1312 trim includes a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral, which is the fix for the drooping handle problem common on older multi point patio trim. It is built into the current trim, not an add-on part.
12) What latch faceplate corner style comes with the Emtek 1312, round or square?
Both are covered. The 1312 works with a round corner or square corner latch faceplate, which matters when you are dropping into an existing mortise in the door edge. Look at the pocket already routed in your slab: a router-cut pocket is radiused and takes the round corner, a chiseled pocket is square.
