Emtek 1371-US15 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1371 multi point trim include the multi point lock body, or just the handles and plates?
Trim only. The 1371 set includes the plates, handles, and the cylinder; the multi point mortise lock box is not part of it. If the door doesn't already have a working multi point mortise lock installed in the stile, you'll need to source that separately and order this to dress it.
2) What does Door Configuration #3 mean on Emtek multi point trim, and how do I know my door is a #3?
Configuration is Emtek's way of describing where the cylinder and handle hub sit relative to each other on the door, and it has to match the prep already cut in your existing multi point lock. The 1371 is Configuration #3: cylinder hub ABOVE the handle, with 4-1/8 inch center-to-center between the cylinder and the spindle hub. Measure from the center of your existing keyhole to the center of the handle spindle. If that's 4-1/8 inches with the key on top, this is your config. If the cylinder sits below the handle, or the spacing is different, a different configuration number is the one you want.
3) Will the Emtek 1371 trim fit my Andersen swinging patio door?
Andersen is the reference door manufacturer for this trim, so it's cut for that prep as long as the geometry matches: cylinder above the handle at 4-1/8 inch center-to-center, and a plate footprint of 1-1/2 x 11 inches. Check those two numbers against the door before ordering, because Andersen has used more than one multi point configuration over the years.
4) Can I key this Emtek patio door trim to match my Schlage or Kwikset house keys?
Yes, and that's the point of the keyway choice. The 1371 takes an American cylinder and ships either in the Schlage keyway (the standard option) or the Weiser WR5 keyway, which is the Kwikset/Weiser family. Pick the one your existing house keys use and it can be keyed alike to them. Keyed different and keyed alike are both selectable, and there's a field for keying to an existing code if you already know it.
5) Do I have to specify handing when ordering Emtek multi point lock trim?
Yes, handing is required, right hand or left hand. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right it's right hand. Get it wrong on a multi point trim and the lever and cylinder land upside down relative to the prep, so this is the one selection worth double checking before you submit the order.
6) Is the Emtek 1371 single cylinder or double cylinder, and is there a key on the inside?
Single cylinder, keyed entry. Key operates from the outside; the inside trim uses a thumbturn or lever action rather than a second keyhole. That's the normal choice for a swinging patio door and the one that keeps egress simple in a residential opening.
7) Do I pick the lever separately from the Emtek 1371 trim plate?
Yes, the lever is a required separate selection and there are over fifty to choose from, including the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar families (Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled, White Marble) plus named levers like Athena, Luzern, Milano, Coventry, Rope and Santa Fe. Any brass lever in the range works with this plate, so you can match the patio door to the interior door levers already in the house.
8) Will Emtek multi point handles sag over time like my old patio door handles?
Not on current production. Emtek multi point trim now includes a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral, which is what stops the droop you see on older lever trim. If you're replacing a sagging set on a patio door, the spring assist is the reason the new one behaves differently.
9) What size are the Emtek Concord plates, and will they cover the marks left by my old trim?
The Concord plate measures 1-1/2 x 11 inches in solid brass, a narrow rectangular plate sized for a patio door stile. Whether it hides your old footprint depends entirely on what came off; if the previous plate was wider than 1-1/2 inches or longer than 11 inches, you'll see the outline. Measure the existing plate first.
10) Is Emtek multi point trim rated for a commercial building entrance?
It's residential hardware. Emtek lists the Concord multi point trim as residential, and it's built for swinging patio doors on homes, not for the cycle counts and grading a commercial storefront or a multi-family common entrance is specified to. For a commercial opening you want a graded commercial lockset instead.
11) What finishes does the Emtek Concord multi point trim come in?
Eight, and each is available in either keyway: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), and French Antique (US7). Unlacquered brass will patina with handling, the others hold their finish, which matters on an exterior patio door you're trying to match to interior hardware.
12) Is the Emtek 1371 an electronic or smart lock?
Mechanical only, keyed with an American cylinder. There's no electronics, no keypad and no motor in this trim, so nothing to wire and nothing to lose when the power drops. It operates the multi point lock body already in your door by lever and key.
