Emtek 1411-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1411 multi point trim include the multi point lock itself?
No. The 1411 is trim only: plates, handles, and the cylinder. The multi point mortise lock box is a separate purchase, so you need the gearbox already in the door or ordered alongside. If your patio door already has a working multi point lock and you just want new hardware on the faces, this is the right kind of part.
2) Will Emtek 1411 trim fit my Marvin or JELD-WEN swinging patio door?
The 1411 is built to Emtek Door Configuration #4 and the configuration is referenced against Ashland, G-U, Caradco, JELD-WEN, Jeld-Wen Custom Collection (formerly Pozzi), Marvin, PGT, Premium Collection (formerly Norco), and Weathershield doors. What decides it is the hole pattern in your door, not the brand name: config #4 with a 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the handle hub and the cylinder, cylinder above the handle. Measure your existing door prep before ordering, because Emtek publishes several configurations and only the matching one lines up.
3) What is the center-to-center dimension on the Emtek 1411 arched trim?
3-5/8 inches between the cylinder and the handle hub, with the cylinder sitting above the handle. If your door is bored the other way round (cylinder below the handle) or at a different spacing, the plate will not line up and you need a different Emtek configuration.
4) Can I key the Emtek 1411 to match my existing Schlage or Kwikset house keys?
The 1411 takes an American cylinder and is offered in two keyways: Schlage (the standard) and Weiser WR5. Weiser WR5 is the keyway Kwikset-style residential keys run in, so pick the keyway your existing keys use. Keying is single cylinder, so it is keyed outside and thumbturn or lever inside. Keyed alike and keyed different are both selectable when ordering, and there is a keying-to-code field if you want it cut to an existing code.
5) Do I have to specify handing when ordering Emtek 1411 multi point trim?
Yes, handing is a required selection: right hand or left hand. Multi point trim is handed because the lever and the cylinder position have to sit correctly relative to the hinge side. Stand outside the door looking in; if the hinges are on your right, it is right hand. Getting this wrong means the lever points the wrong way on the plate.
6) What lever styles can I get with Emtek sandcast bronze multi point trim?
Lever choice is required and there are ten in the sandcast bronze range: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, and Yuma. Any sandcast bronze lever can be ordered on this trim, so you can match levers already used on interior doors in the same house.
7) My patio door lever sags. Does the Emtek multi point trim fix that?
Emtek multi point lock trim now ships with a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral and stops the handle drooping. If your current sagging lever is the complaint and the gearbox in the door still throws its points properly, replacing the trim alone addresses it.
8) Does Emtek 1411 trim work on any door thickness?
Door thickness is a field you fill in when ordering, because the cylinder tailpiece and through-fixings have to suit the leaf. Measure the actual door at the lock edge and give that figure rather than assuming a standard, since patio door leaves vary by manufacturer.
9) What finishes does the Emtek 1411 sandcast bronze trim come in?
Three: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB), and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). All three are available in either the Schlage or the Weiser WR5 keyway. These are sandcast bronze, a living finish, so they will shift with handling and weather rather than staying uniform like a plated finish.
10) Is Emtek 1411 multi point trim suitable for a commercial building entrance?
It is residential hardware for swinging patio doors, in sandcast bronze with a mechanical single cylinder function and no electronic option. For a commercial opening that has to meet a grade or a fire rating on the drawing, this is not the part to spec.
