Emtek 1484-US15 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1484 multi point trim include the multi point mortise lock body?
No. The Emtek 1484 is trim only: plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box is a separate purchase, so you need to already have the lock in the door or order one alongside it.
2) What does Door Configuration #4 mean on the Emtek 1484, and which leaf does it go on?
Configuration #4 is the non-keyed setup: a fixed (dummy) handle on the outside and an operating lever on the inside. That combination is meant for the semi-active leaf of a pair of swinging patio doors, the one you normally keep shut and only open when you need the full width. There is no cylinder and no key on this configuration, so use a keyed configuration on the active door you enter through.
3) Will Emtek Concord multi point trim fit my Marvin or JELD-WEN patio door?
Emtek lists this trim against door systems from Ashland, G-U, Caradco, JELD-WEN, JELD-WEN Custom Collection (formerly Pozzi), Marvin, PGT, Premium Collection (formerly Norco) and Weathershield. The deciding dimension is the handle-to-cylinder spacing: the Concord plate is built for 3-5/8 inch center-to-center with the cylinder position above the handle. Measure the existing lock's spacing on your door before ordering.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1484 trim?
Three things beyond the finish: lever style, handing, and door thickness. Handing is right hand or left hand and is required. Lever choice is open across the brass lever range, 51 styles including the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar textured families (Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled, White Marble) plus named levers such as Athena, Luzern, Cortina, Milano, Rope and Arts and Crafts. Door thickness is a free-text entry so the trim is built for your slab.
5) I need the keyed side for the active door of my patio pair. Is the 1484 the right one?
No. The 1484 has a fixed outside handle and no cylinder, so it cannot be locked or unlocked from outside. Use it on the semi-active leaf and order a keyed Concord multi point configuration for the leaf you actually enter through. If you do go keyed in this style, the cylinder is American classification and sits above the handle.
6) How big are the Emtek Concord multi point plates?
The Concord escutcheon plates measure 2 by 10-1/2 inches. That footprint needs a stile wide enough to take a 2 inch plate, which rules out very narrow aluminum patio stiles. Hole spacing is 3-5/8 inch center-to-center.
7) Do Emtek multi point levers still sag over time?
Emtek now builds a Spring Assist into the multi point trim. It returns the lever to horizontal after each use, which is what stops the drooping handle you get on older multi point trim once the lock body spring wears.
8) Is the Emtek Concord multi point trim suitable for a commercial entrance?
Emtek rates the Concord multi point trim as residential. It is swinging patio door hardware for houses and multi-family units, not a commercial-duty entry set, and there is no electronic or access-control version of it.
9) Can I match Emtek Concord multi point trim to the interior door levers in the rest of the house?
Yes, that is the point of the open lever selection. Because the 1484 can take any of Emtek's brass levers, you can carry the same lever style and finish from your interior passage and privacy sets straight onto the patio door. The plate style itself is Concord, a rectangular American Classic profile.
10) What finishes does the Emtek 1484 Concord trim come in?
Eight: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and French Antique (US7). Unlacquered Brass will patina over time, so pick it only if you want the living finish; US3 Lifetime holds its polish.
11) Is the Emtek 1484 trim brass or a plated casting?
Solid brass, both plate and substrate, and it sits in Emtek's Brass collection. Brass is why the unlacquered option is offered at all, and it is what lets the plating range run from polished chrome through to French Antique.
