Yes, handing is required, right hand or left hand. Even though a dummy set does not latch, the plate is cut for a cylinder position below the handle and the lever orientation follows the door swing, so the wrong hand puts the cylinder cutout on the wrong end of the plate.

The plates measure 2 x 10 inches in the Modern style, solid brass, with a contemporary square-edged look. If you are replacing older trim, check that footprint against the wear pattern or paint line on the door face so the new plate covers what the old one did.
