Emtek 17B5 Multi Point Lock Trim (Door Config #7) - Brass Plates, Modern Style (2" x 10"), Dummy Pair

No lock body comes with it. The 17B5 is trim only: brass plates and handles for a swinging patio door. The multi point mortise lock box has to be ordered separately, so if you are replacing a full assembly you need the lock case as well as this trim set.

Dummy means it does not operate anything. The 17B5 is a dummy pair, so handles are fixed on both sides with no latch retraction and no key function. Use it on the inactive leaf of a French or patio pair, or on a panel that stays fixed. If you need the leaf to actually lock and latch, you need an active multi point trim, not this one.

1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, which covers standard residential patio and French door leaves. Door thickness is entered when ordering, so give the actual measured thickness of the slab rather than assuming 1-3/4.

Surface mount, no door prep required for the trim itself. The plates measure 2 by 10 inches with 6 inch center-to-center spacing, so if you are covering an existing set of holes, compare that footprint against what is already bored in the slab. The lock case prep is a separate matter since the 17B5 carries no lock body.

Yes, handing is required, right hand or left hand. Even as a dummy, the plate is not symmetrical: the cylinder opening sits above the handle, so a left hand plate on a right hand door puts the trim upside down relative to the opening. Determine handing from the door you are actually dressing before you order.

Lever style is a required choice, not a fixed part of the set. The 17B5 takes any Emtek brass lever, and the range runs from the modern bar shapes (L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble) through cast designs like Athena, Helios, Hermes, Luzern, Poseidon, Stuttgart, Milano, Turino, Coventry, Rope, Rustic, Santa Fe, Wembley and Arts and Crafts. Pick the lever that matches the interior door hardware you already have so the patio door does not read as an odd one out.

Seven: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Nickel Lifetime (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and Satin Brass (US4). Worth knowing that unlacquered brass is the one that will patina with handling, so on a patio door that gets daily use it will darken unevenly over time. The other six hold their appearance.

It is residential hardware. The 17B5 is a brass patio door trim set rated for residential use, with no commercial cycle or grade behind it. For a multi family common entry or any commercial opening, specify hardware built for that duty instead.
