Emtek 1L1A23-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What multi point lock will the Emtek 1L1A23 trim fit?
It is built to the G-U multi point layout, in the Large Multi Point configuration, with a 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the handle and the cylinder hole and the cylinder sitting above the handle. If the door's existing gearbox is a G-U large multi point with that 3-5/8 inch spacing, this trim lines up.
2) Is a key cylinder included with the 1L1A23, and what cylinder type does it take?
The set is non-keyed, so no cylinder ships with it. The plate is prepped for an American standard mortise cylinder above the handle, and the interior side uses a thumbturn rather than a key. Order the cylinder separately and key it to your existing system.
3) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Emtek 1L1A23?
Yes, handing is required. Choose right hand or left hand to match the door. The thumbturn and lever orientation are built to hand, so a wrong call means the wrong part in the box.
4) What size are the Emtek Arched multi point plates?
Each Arched style plate measures 3 x 17.5 inches. That is a large escutcheon, so check the stile on your patio door is wide enough to take a 3 inch plate and that there is 17-1/2 inches of clear run for it.
5) Which levers can I pair with the 1L1A23 trim?
Any Sandcast Bronze lever in the line, and lever style is a required selection: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton or Yuma. Picking the same lever family used on the interior doors is the usual move when you want the patio door to match.
6) Will the lever on this Emtek multi point set sag over time?
Emtek builds Spring Assist into the multi point trims, which returns the lever to the neutral horizontal position and is there specifically to stop the handle drooping. That is the usual complaint on heavy solid bronze levers, and it is addressed in the trim itself.
7) Is the Emtek 1L1A23 suitable for a commercial opening or an apartment building entry?
It is a residential product, intended for swinging patio doors on homes. For multi-family common entries or commercial exterior doors you want commercial grade mortise or exit hardware instead, not a residential sandcast bronze multi point trim.
8) What finishes does the Emtek 1L1A23 sandcast bronze entry set come in?
Three: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB) and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). All are sandcast solid bronze, so the surface has the texture and tonal variation that comes with cast bronze rather than a uniform plated look.
9) Do I need to give a door thickness when ordering this multi point trim?
There is a door thickness field on the order, and it is worth filling in. Multi point trim spindles and cylinder length depend on the slab, so supplying the actual thickness of the patio door keeps the lever and cylinder at the right projection.
10) Is the Emtek 1L1A23 an electronic or keypad lock?
No, it is fully mechanical. No keypad, no motor, no wiring, and no power at the door. Operation is the lever plus the interior thumbturn, with a mortise cylinder on the outside if you add one.
