Trim only. The 1L1M14 set gives you the plates and handles; the multi point mortise lock box is a separate purchase. If you are replacing hardware on an existing swinging patio door, that works in your favor since the lock body already in the door stays put. On new work, you need to source the multi point lock box alongside this trim.

It is set up for G-U multi point lock bodies in the large multi point configuration, with 3-5/8 inch center-to-center spacing between the handle spindle and the cylinder hole, and the cylinder position below the handle. Measure the CTC on the lock already in your door before ordering; if yours is not 3-5/8 inches, this plate will not line up.

Yes, handing is required. You pick right hand or left hand at order time, and it is not field reversible on your end, so determine handing from the door before you order. Lever style is also a required choice, and door thickness can be entered as well so the spindle length suits your door.

You choose the lever. The Melrose trim accepts any of Emtek's brass levers, and the selection runs from the modern L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar families in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble, through Athena, Helios, Hermes, Luzern, Poseidon and Stuttgart, to traditional profiles like Rope, Ribbon and Reed, Rustic, Santa Fe, Wembley and Arts and Crafts. The Melrose plate measures 2.9 by 17.5 inches. That is a large multi point plate, so it covers a tall, narrow footprint on the stile. If your existing plate is wider than 2.9 inches, some of the old finish or fastener holes will show through around the edges.

It is classified as residential hardware, made for swinging patio doors in homes. For a commercial entrance with traffic and code requirements, look at a Grade 1 commercial mortise or exit device line instead of this trim.

Nine finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Lifetime Polished Nickel (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Lifetime Polished Brass (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and French Antique (US7). Unlacquered brass is the one that will patina over time, which is intentional if you want a living finish, and a problem if you want it to stay bright.

Spring assist is built into the trim. It returns the lever to horizontal after each use, which is the usual cure for droopy levers on tall patio door hardware where the lever carries a long spindle run.

The plate is prepped for an American standard cylinder, positioned below the handle. That is the same classification used across Emtek's keyed multi point trims, so a house already keyed on an American profile stays consistent.

Solid brass, both substrate and material, which is why it is offered with brass levers and in living finishes like unlacquered brass. Brass takes plating and patina well, so the nine finishes are all applied over the same base metal.
