1) Does the Emtek 1L1R14 multi point entry set include the multi point lock mechanism?
No. The 1L1R14 is trim only, plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box has to be ordered separately, along with your chosen lever style. Plan on sourcing the lock body from the door manufacturer or as a separate line item before you schedule the install.
2) What door does the 1L1R14 go on in a French door pair?
The semi-active (inactive) leaf. It has a fixed handle on the outside with no keyed cylinder and an operating lever on the inside, so you can work the multi point lock from indoors but not enter with a key from outside. The active leaf needs a keyed set.
3) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Emtek 1L1R14?
Yes, handing is required, right hand or left hand. Because the outside handle is fixed and the inside lever operates, the trim is built to one hand and can't be flipped in the field. Determine handing from the outside of the door, standing where the hinges are away from you.
4) What lever styles can I put on the Emtek Modern Rectangular multi point trim?
Lever choice is a required selection and it's open to any brass lever in the Emtek range, over 50 options, from the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar contemporary bars in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble, through Athena, Helios, Hermes, Luzern, Poseidon and Stuttgart, to traditional shapes like Cortina, Milano, Turino, Rope, Rustic, Santa Fe and Arts & Crafts. That lets you match the patio doors to the levers already on the interior doors.
5) What finishes does the Emtek 1L1R14 come in for matching the rest of the house?
Seven: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Lifetime Polished Nickel (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and Satin Brass (US4). Unlacquered brass is a living finish and will patina over time, the others hold their appearance.
6) Is this Emtek entry trim suitable for a commercial building or apartment entry?
It's built as residential swinging patio door hardware, brass plates and handles on a multi point gearbox. For a commercial opening you want a Grade 1 mortise or cylindrical lockset instead, since this trim carries no commercial durability grade and the multi point format isn't a code-compliant egress device.
7) Do I need a cylinder for the inactive door trim?
No cylinder is needed on the 1L1R14 itself, it's a non-keyed set. Where a cylinder does appear on the keyed active-leaf counterpart in this line, the prep is American standard classification with the cylinder positioned below the handle, so plan your keying around a standard American mortise cylinder for that door.
8) Will the inside lever sag over time on this Emtek multi point trim?
No. The trim ships with Emtek's Spring Assist, which returns the lever to horizontal and prevents the droop you get on long patio door levers carrying their own weight. It's included on the trim, nothing extra to order.
9) Why does the Emtek 1L1R14 ask for door thickness at checkout?
Door thickness is an optional entry because the spindle and any through-bolt length have to span your actual door. Patio and French door slabs vary from standard, so give the measured thickness of the leaf if it's anything other than typical, and Emtek sizes the hardware accordingly.
