1) Does the Emtek 1L1R53 multi point entry set include the multi point lock mechanism?
No. The 1L1R53 is trim only, plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box is a separate purchase, so you need the gearbox and rods sized to your door before this trim does anything. If your door already has a multi point lock in it, this is the dress hardware that goes over it.
2) What cylinder does the Emtek 1L1R53 entry trim take, and where does the key go?
Euro profile cylinder, mounted below the handle. The inside is a non-keyed American style thumbturn, so you operate it by hand from indoors and by key from outside. Because the prep is Euro profile rather than a standard rim or mortise cylinder, an existing US-style cylinder from a conventional entry lock will not transfer over.
3) What is the center-to-center spacing on the Emtek 1L1R53, and will it line up with my door prep?
3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the handle spindle and the cylinder. That is the number that decides whether the trim drops onto an existing multi point door: measure your door from the lever hub down to the cylinder hole. If it comes out at anything else, the plate holes will not land and you need trim matched to that gearbox spacing.
4) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the Emtek 1L1R53?
Yes, handing is required, right hand or left hand. So is a lever style, chosen from Emtek's brass lever range. Door thickness is an optional entry, and worth filling in if your door is anything other than a standard slab, since the spindle and cylinder screws have to reach through it. Getting handing wrong on a multi point set means the thumbturn and lever sit backwards.
5) Can I pick my own lever on the Emtek 1L1R53 multi point trim?
Yes. The 1L1R53 takes any Emtek brass lever, and the choice is wide: the modern L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar families in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble, plus traditional patterns like Cortina, Milano, Turino, Rope, Ribbon and Reed, Arts and Crafts and Rustic. That is how you match a patio door to the levers already on the interior doors.
6) My multi point patio door handles are sagging. Will new Emtek trim fix that?
That is exactly what the spring assist does. Every current Emtek multi point lock trim, including the 1L1R53, has a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral instead of letting it droop under its own weight. Sagging handles on a heavy patio lever are a trim problem, not a gearbox problem, so replacing the trim solves it as long as the gearbox itself still throws.
7) Is the Emtek 1L1R53 a commercial-rated entry set?
No, it is residential hardware for swinging patio doors. For a commercial opening that has to meet cycle and grade requirements, this is the wrong direction, look at a Grade 1 mortise or cylindrical lockset instead. For a house, a multi-family unit patio door or a high-end residential entry, the 1L1R53 is in its lane.

Unlacquered brass will patina with handling and weather, so pick it only if you want a living finish; the plated options hold their appearance.
