1) Does the Emtek 2406 Lancaster doorbell come with the button, or do I have to buy that separately?
Both the plate and the lighted push button ship together on the Emtek 2406, along with matching screws in the same finish. The screws are not sold on their own, so if you lose them you are buying another doorbell. Order one part number, get the complete trim assembly for the opening.
2) What finishes does the Emtek 2406 Lancaster doorbell come in, and can I match it to my entry lockset?
Seven finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), and French Antique (US7). Those are Emtek's standard finish codes, so if your entry handleset or knob is an Emtek in US15 or US10B, the doorbell plate and its screws come in the same finish and the entry reads as one set.
3) What is the difference between the Emtek 2406 and the 2401 or 2407 doorbell?
Same American Designer brass doorbell, different rosette shape. The 2406 carries the Lancaster rosette, the 2401 the Rope rosette, and the 2407 the Ribbon and Reed rosette. Pick the one that matches the rosette style on your entry knob or lever. If you are on a plainer American Classic trim, the 2400 (regular rosette), 2402 (oval), or 2403 (rectangular) are the matching plates.
4) Can I use the Emtek 2406 doorbell with my existing chime and transformer?
The 2406 is the push button and plate only, not a chime or transformer. It replaces the button on an existing wired doorbell circuit, so the chime, transformer, and wiring already in the wall stay where they are. Kill the power at the transformer, pull the old button, land the two low-voltage leads on the new one, and screw the plate down with the matching screws that come in the box.
5) Is the Emtek 2406 doorbell button lighted?
The button on the 2406 Lancaster rosette doorbell is a lighted one, which is what you want for a front entry that a visitor approaches after dark. It is an electrical device that wires into a standard low-voltage doorbell circuit rather than a self-contained wireless chime.
6) Will Unlacquered Brass on the Emtek doorbell stay bright, or will it darken?
Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) has no clear coat, so it will patina with handling and weather. On a doorbell that gets pressed daily it will darken fastest around the button. If you want the bright brass look held, choose Polished Brass Lifetime (US3) instead. Both are solid brass underneath.
7) I need a longer doorbell plate to cover an old cutout. Is there an Emtek option that is not a small rosette?
A rosette-style doorbell like the 2406 covers only a small round area, so it will not hide a large existing cutout. Emtek's STRETTO plates are the long ones: the 2440 is a 1-1/2 by 5 inch plate and the 2441 is 1-1/2 by 11 inches. Those are the ones to look at when you are covering a scar in the siding or trim from a previous unit.
8) Is the Emtek 2406 doorbell suitable for a commercial building entrance?
Emtek classes the 2406 as residential hardware, and it is a decorative solid brass trim piece meant for a house or a unit entry. On an apartment or condo front door it is a good fit and matches the rest of the Emtek entry line. For a commercial lobby with heavy traffic or a code-driven access control spec, go to a commercial-grade push button instead.
9) I want a matching doorbell for a wrought steel or bronze entry set, not brass. What does Emtek offer?
The 2406 is a brass doorbell, so it will not blend with rustic iron or cast bronze trim. Emtek builds the same doorbell in other substrates: Sandcast Bronze rosettes are the 2421, 2422, 2423, 2424, and 2425; Wrought Steel are the 2431, 2432, and 2433; and the Tuscany lost wax cast bronze rosettes are the 2411, 2412, 2414, and 2415. Match the substrate to your entry set first, then the rosette shape.
10) I manage several units and want the same doorbell on every door. Can I standardize on the Emtek 2406?
