Emtek 2423-FB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Emtek 2423 doorbell button lighted, and does it need power run to it?
The 2423 uses a lighted button, so it needs low-voltage power at the button, the same as any illuminated bell push. Emtek lists it as an electronic item. If the opening currently has an unlit mechanical button on a two-wire chime circuit, plan on the transformer and chime being in place before swapping it in.
2) What is the difference between the Emtek 2421, 2422, 2423, 2424 and 2425 sandcast doorbells?
Only the rosette, the decorative plate behind the button. The sandcast bronze family runs 2421 with the #1 rosette, 2422 with #2, 2423 with #3, 2424 with #4 and 2425 with #6. The button and construction are the same across them, so pick the rosette shape that matches the sandcast bronze rosettes already on your knobs and levers.
3) Which Emtek doorbell should I use if my entry hardware isn't sandcast bronze?
Emtek builds the same doorbell in several trim families, and you should match the one your door hardware comes from. American Classic runs the 2400 regular rosette, 2402 oval, 2403 rectangular and 2404 Wilshire. Contemporary covers 2458 disk, 2459 square and 2465 Urban Modern. Tuscany lost wax cast bronze runs 2411, 2412, 2414 and 2415, wrought steel runs 2431, 2432 and 2433, and the STRETTO plates are 2440 at 1-1/2 x 5 inches and 2441 at 1-1/2 x 11 inches. The 2423 is only right if the rest of the entry is sandcast bronze.
4) What finishes does the Emtek 2423 sandcast bronze doorbell come in?
Three: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB), and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). These are living-finish sandcast bronze tones, not plated brass colors, so if you're matching entry hardware on a house already trimmed in Emtek sandcast bronze, order the same suffix code as the handleset.
5) Do I need to buy mounting screws for the Emtek 2423 doorbell plate?
No. The 2423 ships with matching screws and the lighted button in the box. Emtek does not sell those screws separately, so don't discard the hardware bag on the jobsite; there's no replacement pack to order if they walk off.
6) Is the Emtek sandcast bronze doorbell suitable for a commercial building entrance?
Emtek catalogs the 2423 as residential hardware. It's a decorative sandcast bronze bell push aimed at homes and high-end residential entries. For an apartment lobby, an office, or anywhere on a card-access or intercom system, specify a commercial-grade push station instead of this one.
7) Will the Emtek 2423 doorbell work as a direct swap for the existing button on my door casing?
It's a plate-and-button assembly with its own rosette, so it covers a mounting area of its own shape rather than dropping into a previous button's footprint. Screws come with it. If you're replacing a small round push on narrow brick mold or a tight casing, confirm the #3 rosette footprint clears before you pull the old one, and note the button is lighted, so there has to be power at the box.
8) Is the Emtek 2423 doorbell solid bronze or brass?
The sandcast rosette and plate are bronze, cast rather than stamped, which is what gives the sandcast line its heavier texture and its ability to patina outdoors. The listed specifications also call out brass in the assembly. Order the finish by suffix (FB, MB or TWB) so the plate weathers alongside the rest of the sandcast bronze trim on the entry.
