1) What is the difference between the Emtek 2421, 2422, 2423, 2424 and 2425 doorbells?
The rosette shape, and nothing else about the family. All five are sandcast bronze doorbells with plate and button: 2421 uses the #1 rosette, 2422 the #2, 2423 the #3, 2424 the #4 and 2425 the #6. Pick the rosette that matches the sandcast bronze knobs, levers or entry trim already on the openings, then choose the finish code.
2) Does the Emtek 2424 doorbell replace an existing wired doorbell button, or do I need a new chime?
The 2424 is a wired pushbutton with a lighted button, an electronic item that takes the place of the button at the door. It carries the low voltage signal to whatever transformer and chime are already in the house, so a standard existing wired setup keeps working. Yes, look at the STRETTO plates instead of the #4 rosette. The 2440 is a 1-1/2 x 5 inch STRETTO plate and the 2441 is 1-1/2 x 11 inch. Both are the tall narrow format that suits a slim casing or a sidelite stile, where a round rosette like the 2424's would overhang. Note the STRETTO plates are a separate style family from sandcast bronze, so the finish range will not be the same three bronze codes.
7) Is the Emtek 2424 doorbell button rated for commercial buildings or is it residential?
Residential. Emtek classifies the 2424 as a residential product, so for an apartment entry, a single family home or a custom door it is on spec. For a multi tenant vestibule, an office lobby or anywhere the button gets hit hundreds of times a day, specify commercial rated entry signaling hardware instead.
