1) Will the Emtek 5241 STRETTO privacy set fit a narrow stile door or a door with a narrow rail?
That is exactly what the 5241 is built for. The STRETTO rectangular trim measures 2 x 10 inches and uses a narrow 1-1/4 inch door prep with 3-3/8 inch center-to-center hole spacing, so it works where a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore rosette would run off the edge of the stile. Note the latch itself still takes a 2-1/8 inch cross bore, so confirm your door can take that bore within the narrow prep.
2) What backset does the Emtek 5241 come with, and can I use it on a 2-3/4 inch backset door?
The latch is adjustable for both 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inch backsets, the two standard bored-lock backsets. Standard shipping configuration is 2-3/8 inches, so specify 2-3/4 inches on the order if that is what your door is bored for.
3) Does the Emtek 5241 lock with a key, or is it a bed and bath privacy function?
It is a non-keyed privacy function, the standard bedroom and bathroom setup: thumbturn or push button inside, emergency release outside. There is no cylinder and no key. If you need key control on that opening, you want a keyed entry lockset instead, not the 5241.
4) Do I have to specify handing when ordering an Emtek STRETTO 5241?
Handing is required on every order, right hand or left hand. It matters for levers in particular, since the lever has to point the correct direction on the door. Knob configurations still go through the same required handing selection, so determine the swing before ordering.
5) What do I need to order besides the Emtek 5241 trim to complete the door?
The 5241 ships as a complete set with the latch and strike plate included, so no separate latch purchase. What you do have to choose is the knob or lever style for the inside trim, the handing, the backset, and the door thickness range. The knob and lever selection spans 10 lever designs including Aurora, Durango and Teton, and 15 knob designs including Butte, Egg, Round and Windsor.
6) Will the Emtek 5241 latch drop into my existing bored door, or do I need to redrill?
Only if your door already has the narrow prep. The 5241 needs 1-1/4 inch preps at 3-3/8 inch hole spacing along with a 2-1/8 inch cross bore, which is not the same layout as a standard round rosette knob set. A door bored for a conventional 2-1/8 inch single bore will need the additional narrow-trim prep drilled. The latch is a 28 degree latch and comes with the strike, and the faceplate is available round corner or square corner to match your existing mortise in the edge of the door.
