Emtek 7105-FBS – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does a passage lockset lock? What function is the Emtek 7105?
It does not lock. Passage function means the knob or lever simply retracts the latch from both sides at all times, with no key and no privacy button. The 7105 is non-keyed. Use it on hallways, closets, pantries and laundry doors. For a bathroom or bedroom you want a privacy set instead, and for an exterior door you need a keyed entry set.
2) Do I have to specify handing on the Emtek 7105 Wrought Steel sideplate set?
Handing is required, right hand or left hand, and it matters on the lever styles in particular. Stand on the outside of the door: if the hinges are on your right it is right hand, hinges on the left is left hand. The three lever options are Lafayette, Normandy and San Carlos.
3) I need a keyed entry on a sideplate instead of a passage set - what should I use?
The Emtek 7105 Wrought Steel #5 sideplate set is a non-keyed passage function, so it latches but never locks. For a sideplate lever set that accepts a key, the Omnia D12036A is a single cylinder deadbolt lever lockset in solid brass - keyed from the outside with a thumbturn inside. Use the 7105 on halls, closets and pantry doors where you only want the latch, and the D12036A where the opening needs to lock.
4) What sideplate lockset works on a door with glass next to it where a thumbturn is not allowed?
The Emtek 7105 is a passage set and does not lock at all, so it is not the answer for a secured opening. The Omnia D12036AC is a double cylinder deadbolt lever lockset with a sideplate design, keyed on both sides so there is no interior thumbturn to reach through adjacent glazing. Confirm double cylinder is permitted on that opening under your local egress code before specifying it.
5) I have a fixed door leaf that does not need a working latch - do I still order the 7105?
No. The Emtek 7105 is a tubular lockset that includes a working latch and strike, which a non-operating leaf does not need and cannot bore for. The Omnia D12036PD is a double dummy lever lockset with plates on a 5-1/2 inch center to center spacing - surface applied trim only, no latch. Use the dummy on the inactive leaf and the 7105 on the leaf that swings.
6) What knob and lever styles can I put on the Emtek 7105 sideplate?
Seven trim choices: Lafayette, Normandy and San Carlos levers, and Jamestown, Savannah, Madison Black and Madison Ivory knobs. The set ships complete with the knob or lever you pick, plus latch and strike plate, so nothing else is needed to hang it.
7) What finishes does the Emtek Wrought Steel #5 passage sideplate come in?
Two: Flat Black Steel (FBS) and Satin Steel (SWS). Both are part of the Wrought Steel collection, a rustic-look line, so if you are matching other openings in the house look for those same FBS or SWS codes on the rest of the Emtek Wrought Steel hardware.
8) Is the Emtek 7105 rated for commercial use?
No. The 7105 Wrought Steel sideplate set is a residential product. For an office building, school or other commercial opening with real traffic you want a Grade 1 or Grade 2 cylindrical lockset instead of a decorative residential sideplate set.
9) I need a locking version of this sideplate look, not passage. What else is there?
The 7105 is passage only, so it will not secure anything. Among sideplate-style lever sets we carry, Omnia offers locking versions in solid brass: the D12036A is a single cylinder deadbolt lever lockset and the D12036AC is the double cylinder version. Omnia also makes the D12036PD, a double dummy with plates on 5-1/2 inch centers, for a non-functioning door. Note those are brass Omnia products, a different look from Emtek's Wrought Steel finish family.
10) Is the Omnia D12036A a direct swap for the Emtek 7105 on the same door prep?
They are not interchangeable functions. The Emtek 7105 is a 7-1/8 inch sideplate set in a Wrought Steel finish over a standard single 2-1/8 inch cross bore with a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset. The Omnia D12036A is a single cylinder deadbolt lever lockset in solid brass, which combines a deadbolt with the lever trim and so requires prep for both. Swapping one for the other means reworking the door, not just changing trim.
11) What is the material difference between the Emtek 7105 sideplate and the Omnia sideplate locksets?
The Emtek 7105 is from the Wrought Steel collection with a steel substrate, offered in Flat Black Steel and Satin Steel finishes - a rustic look. The Omnia D12036A and D12036AC are solid brass construction. If you are matching existing brass sideplate trim elsewhere in the building, the Omnia sets align; for a blackened or satin steel rustic program, the 7105 is the match.
