The 8044 STRETTO narrow trim set is a surface mounted trim pair with no latch, no bore and no keying, so the knob or lever does not turn a bolt and the door will not stay shut on its own. Use it on a closet, pantry or the inactive leaf of a double door where a ball catch or roller catch holds the door. If you need the door to latch, you want the passage or privacy version of the STRETTO trim instead.

That is what the narrow trim plate is for. The STRETTO 8044 back plate measures 1-1/2 x 11 inches, so it fits stiles too slim for a standard rosette or a full width escutcheon. Because the dummy version is surface mounted with no door prep required, there is nothing to bore through a narrow stile at all, which is often the deciding factor on a glass panel or true divided light door.

Handing is required when a lever is chosen, and you pick right hand or left hand at the time of order. Levers are handed because the return has to point toward the hinge side; knobs are symmetrical, but the order still records a hand. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right, it is right hand.
