Metallics JEB13SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread size and length is the Metallics JEB13SS eye bolt?
The JEB13SS is a 3/8-16 threaded eye bolt with a 3-7/8 inch shank length, and it ships with a matching nut. The 3/8-16 call-out means a 3/8 inch diameter with 16 threads per inch, which is the standard UNC coarse pitch for that diameter, so it mates with any standard 3/8-16 coarse nut or tapped hole.
2) Does the JEB13SS eye bolt come with a nut, or do I order that separately?
The nut is included. Each JEB13SS is supplied as a bolt and nut set, so for a through-hole application you do not need to source a separate 3/8-16 nut. A washer is not part of the set.
3) Is the JEB13SS eye bolt stainless steel, and can it be used outdoors?
Stainless steel construction, which is why electrical and MRO buyers pick it for damp locations, exterior runs, rooftops, and coastal or washdown areas where a plain or zinc plated eye bolt would rust at the threads.
4) How many eye bolts are in a jar of Metallics JEB13SS?
Twenty five pieces per jar, and the jar is the pack type it ships in. That quantity suits a contractor stocking a van or a facility stockroom standardizing on one 3/8-16 stainless eye bolt rather than buying singles.
5) What part number do I order for the Metallics stainless 3/8-16 x 3-7/8 eye bolt?
Order Metallics JEB13SS. That is the manufacturer part number for the 3/8 inch 16 thread, 3-7/8 inch stainless eye bolt with nut, supplied 25 to a jar.
6) Will the JEB13SS eye bolt thread into a 3/8-16 tapped insert or coupling?
Yes. The shank is 3/8-16, so it threads into any 3/8-16 tapped hole, insert, rod coupling, or anchor of that size. For through-bolting instead, you have 3-7/8 inches of bolt length to work with plus the included nut.
7) What is a 3/8-16 eye bolt and nut used for on an electrical job?
An eye bolt gives you a closed loop anchor point on a threaded shank. On electrical work it is used for guy wire and messenger attachment, suspending raceway or fixtures from structure, cable pulling tie-offs, and anchoring bracing. The 3-7/8 inch shank passes through structural steel, wood members, or a plate, and the supplied nut secures it from the back side. Metallics catalogs the JEB13SS with its electrical fastener line.
