Sta-Kon RA25177M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RA25177M male disconnect crimp onto?
The RA25177M takes 22 to 18 AWG stranded wire. That's the red insulation color code, so if you're sorting a bin by color, red is the 22-18 range on these nylon disconnects. For 16-14 AWG you need the blue barrel instead, and for 12-10 AWG the yellow.
2) Will this male disconnect mate with a standard .250 quick-disconnect female terminal?
Yes. The RA25177M is a .250 tab male disconnect, so it plugs into any standard 1/4 inch quick-disconnect female terminal or .250 receptacle. Those are the common blade size on motors, switches, relays and appliance controls. It will not mate with .187 or .110 tabs.
3) Is the Sta-Kon RA25177M UL listed, and what voltage can I use it at?
It carries UL file E66716 and is rated 300 V. That covers typical control circuits, line-voltage appliance and motor wiring at 120/240 V, and panel work inside a 300 V limit. Don't use it above 300 V.
4) Do I need a male and female pair, or does one RA25177M complete the connection?
One RA25177M gives you the male half only. To make a separable splice between two wires you also need a matching .250 fully insulated female disconnect in the same 22-18 AWG range. If the equipment already has a .250 female receptacle on it, the male alone finishes the job.
5) What does fully insulated mean on this disconnect, and does the tab still make contact?
Fully insulated means the nylon sleeve covers the crimp barrel and extends over the tab shoulder, so no metal is exposed at the wire end once it's crimped. The .250 blade itself stays open to engage the mating female terminal. Nylon takes abuse better than vinyl in hot or vibrating equipment, which is why these show up in HVAC and motor control work.
6) Are these Sta-Kon disconnects belted for a crimp machine or loose pieces?
The RA25177M is supplied belted, meaning the terminals come on a carrier strip for feeding an automatic or semi-automatic crimp applicator. If you're doing hand crimping on a service call, loose-piece disconnects are the easier buy; belted stock is for production and panel-build volume.
7) Is the Sta-Kon RA25177M made in the USA for a Buy American spec job?
Country of origin on the RA25177M is the United States. That matters on federal, state and institutional contracts that carry domestic-preference language for electrical components.
8) What is the terminal barrel made of on the RA25177M?
Brass. Brass barrels are standard on quick-disconnects and crimp to stranded copper conductors without a special tool beyond a proper insulated-terminal crimper. Use the red die position or red-coded nest on your crimper to match the 22-18 AWG barrel.
