1) Can I use Hercules Pro Dope thread sealant on PVC or CPVC pipe threads?
No. Oatey's Hercules Pro Dope is an oil-based sealant for metal threaded pipe, and the instructions say not to use it on plastic pipe. For threaded PVC or CPVC joints, use a sealant rated for plastics or PTFE tape instead.
2) Is Pro Dope approved for natural gas lines and LP (propane) gas?
Natural gas yes, LP gas no. Pro Dope is listed for pipe systems carrying water, natural gas, air, steam, ammonia, brine, and diluted acids and alkalis, but the instructions specifically exclude LP gas lines. If the job is a propane run, pick a sealant that names LP gas.
