Yes. Oatey's Hercules Megaloc multi-purpose thread sealant is safe for drinking water lines, and the formula is odorless, non-separating, non-flammable and non-hazardous. That makes it usable on domestic water piping in apartments, hospitals and other occupied buildings where a solvent-smelling dope is a problem.

Megaloc withstands gas pressure to 2,600 psi and is hydraulic resistant to 12,000 psi on liquid service. It is not recommended for lines carrying concentrated acids, alkali, ketone or oxygen, so keep it off oxygen service and chemical feed piping.

In service the sealed joint performs from -50 F to 400 F. Application temperature is a narrower window: -25 F (-31 C) up to 122 F (50 C), which matters on a winter rooftop or an unheated crawlspace where you are applying it cold.
5) Should I use Megaloc or PTFE tape on tapered pipe threads?
A paste sealant like Megaloc fills the thread voids and lubricates as you make up the joint, which is why it is the common choice on metal and plastic tapered threads and on gas piping, where it holds to 2,600 psi. Tape is a dry wrap that has to be started correctly and can shred on plastic threads. Megaloc's advantage on service work is that it never hardens, so the fitting comes apart again months later.
