OATEY 90230 Hercules® 4 in. Johni-Rings - Standard Size With Plastic Horn

A horn like the one on the Oatey 90230 funnels discharge into the drain and helps bridge the gap when the flange sits at or slightly below finished floor. Use a no-horn ring when the flange sits high above the floor or the toilet outlet is shallow and the horn would prevent the bowl from seating flat. The 90230 is the standard-thickness horn version for 4 inch waste lines.

Floor mounted toilets. The Hercules 90230 Johni-Ring is specified for floor mounted water closets sealing to a closet flange. Wall hung carriers use a different gasket arrangement.

The 90230 is the standard-size ring, which covers the usual case of a closet flange at or near finished floor level. If the flange sits low because tile or a new floor was added over it, a standard ring may not compress enough to seal, and installers either stack a second ring or move to an extra-thick version. Measure flange height against the finished floor before you commit.

The Hercules wax gasket forms a permanent, sanitary, gas and watertight seal on most types of water closets. It is a soft, flexible high-grade petroleum wax, so it conforms to minor irregularities in the flange and bowl horn as the toilet is set down. Rubber and foam alternatives exist and are reusable, but the wax is the long-standing approach and is what most resets use.

No. The 90230 is the wax ring with plastic horn and its clean release tray only. You supply the closet bolts, washers and nuts, and the closet flange if that is being replaced too. For a stock of resets, order bolt sets separately.

The 90230 ships in a clean release tray, so the ring lifts out holding its shape and your hands stay clean. Set it on the bowl horn or the flange, then lower the toilet straight down without rocking it. Once you compress wax and lift the bowl back off, the ring is done and needs replacing.
