HES 1006CLB COMPLETE PACS FOR LATCHBOLT LOCKS

The 1006CLB is the electric strike for every latchbolt lock. It accommodates every cylindrical and mortise lockset for ANSI 4-7/8" strike plates with up to a 3/4" latchbolt. Included in the box is a 1006 strike body, 3 faceplates (J, KD and KM) and all the necessary mounting hardware you will need.

HES 1006CLB 630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the HES 1006CLB work with my existing mortise lock, or do I need a specific faceplate?
The 1006CLB Complete Pac ships with three faceplates (J, KD and KM) so it covers both cylindrical and mortise latchbolt locksets out of the box. Use J with cylindrical locksets up to a 3/4 inch throw and any lockset with a center-lined bolt. Use KD when your mortise lock has the deadlatch above the latchbolt, which covers Jackson, Sargent 7700 and 8100, Schlage, and Yale 8700. Use KM when the deadlatch sits below the latchbolt, which covers Accurate, Arrow, Corbin/Russwin, Falcon 1992 M Series, Sargent 7800, 8200 and 9200, and Yale 8800. Best is split: 45H and 47H are deadlatch below (KM), 34H through 37H are deadlatch above (KD). Pull the lock and look at where the deadlatch plunger sits relative to the latchbolt before you pick the plate.
2) Does the HES 1006CLB fit a standard ANSI 4-7/8 inch strike prep?
Yes, that is exactly the prep it is cut for. All three included faceplates are 4-7/8 by 1-1/4 inches, matching the ANSI standard strike opening, and the strike body is 1-11/16 inches wide by 2-1/16 inches deep in the frame. If your frame already has an ANSI 4-7/8 cutout you are working with existing prep, not new prep. Check the frame depth behind the cutout for the 2-1/16 inch body before you commit.
3) My lockset has a 3/4 inch latchbolt. Will the 1006CLB accept it?
Up to a 3/4 inch latchbolt is the stated limit for the 1006CLB, so a 3/4 inch bolt is in range. It handles both cylindrical and mortise latchbolt locksets. If the lock also throws a deadbolt, the strike accommodates up to a 1 inch deadbolt as well.
4) Should I order the HES 1006 fail safe or fail secure?
Fail secure means the door stays locked when power drops and you get in with the key; fail safe releases and the door unlocks on power loss. Order fail secure for a standard access control opening where you do not want the building open in an outage. Order fail safe where egress or a fire alarm interface requires the door to release. Two things push the decision: the fire rating on the 1006 applies to fail secure only (UL 10C, 3 hour single door and 1-1/2 hour double door), and the published 2,500 lb static and 350 ft-lb dynamic strength figures are the fail secure numbers. On a labeled fire door, fail secure is the configuration to order. The mode is field selectable on the 1006 and both are offered as ordering options.
5) Can I use the HES 1006CLB on a fire rated door?
Yes, on a labeled opening in the fail secure configuration. The 1006 is UL 10C fire rated for 3 hour single door and 1-1/2 hour double door, both fail secure only, and it is conformant to CAN4-S104 (ULC-S104), NFPA-252 and ASTM-E152. Specify fail secure if the opening is labeled; fail safe is not covered by the fire rating.
6) What voltage does the HES 1006 electric strike need, and how much current does it draw?
Dual voltage, 12 or 24VDC continuous duty, selectable on the strike, so it drops onto most existing access control power supplies without a separate part number. Draw is .45 amps at 12VDC and .25 amps at 24VDC. The DC has to be well filtered, ripple under 1 volt RMS. Size the supply off those figures when you are running several strikes on one panel. If you are feeding it from an AC source, the 2001M plug-in bridge rectifier is the accessory for that.
7) Can I use the HES 1006 on an exterior door?
Yes. The 1006 is UL 1034 listed and suitable for outdoor use, and it is ANSI A250.13-2003 windstorm listed plus Florida Building Code approved, which is what you need on a coastal or hurricane zone opening. For a door taking direct weather, the 1000-102 rain guard is the accessory that shields the strike.
8) Do I need a left hand or right hand version of the HES 1006 electric strike?
No handing to specify. The 1006 is non-handed, so one part covers left and right hand openings. That also means you can stock a single strike across a building instead of splitting inventory by hand.
9) Can I get door position or latch status feedback from the HES 1006CLB?
Two monitor options are offered on the 1006CLB. LBM is a latchbolt monitor, which reports whether the lock's latchbolt is projected into the strike. LBSM is a latchbolt strike monitor, which reports both latchbolt condition and the strike keeper. Either can be ordered with fail safe or fail secure. Specify the monitor at order time, it is not a field add. One caveat if you plan to swap faceplates later: the monitor switches may not work with all 27 interchangeable faceplate options.
10) Is the HES 1006 strong enough for a main entrance or a high traffic tenant door?
The 1006 is ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1, the top commercial grade, built from stainless steel with a dual interlocking plunger. Holding force is 2,500 lbs static with 350 ft-lbs of dynamic strength, and it is factory tested past 1,000,000 cycles. It is also UL 1034 burglary resistant listed. For a main entry or a heavily used tenant or amenity door across a portfolio, those are the numbers that matter.
11) Can the HES 1006CLB be installed in a wood frame, or is it metal frames only?
Both. The 1006CLB is approved for metal and wood frame applications, and the Complete Pac includes all the mounting hardware for the install. For metal frames, the HESCUT-MTK metal template kit is the accessory that lays out the cutout.
12) What is the difference between the HES 1006CLB and the 1006CDB Complete Pac?
The CLB is the latchbolt version, built for cylindrical and mortise locksets with up to a 3/4 inch latchbolt, and it ships with the J, KD and KM faceplates for those locks. The CDB is the deadbolt Complete Pac in the same 1006 series. The 1006 line also includes the 1006CS Smart Strike and the 1006CAS Complete Pac. Pick by what your lock actually throws into the frame: if you are strike-releasing a latchbolt lock, CLB is the pac.
13) My existing strike cutout is a little off from the new lock. Can the HES 1006 be adjusted?
There is horizontal adjustment built in. Full keeper shims let you shift the keeper to line up with the latchbolt, and they are included in the Complete Pac (also sold separately as 1006-103). If the old cutout leaves visible gaps or a mismatched lip, the trim enhancer is standard, and the 1000-104 lip extension trim adapter, 1006-109 trim adapter, 1006-105 trim enhancer in black and 1000-130 KD filler plate cover the retrofit cases.
14) What is actually in the HES 1006CLB box, and what else do I need to buy?
The box holds the 1006 strike body, three faceplates (J, KD and KM) and the mounting hardware for the install. There is a plug-in connector on the strike for the wiring. What is not in the box is anything upstream: power supply, and if you need one, the 2001M bridge rectifier for an AC source, the 2005M3 SMART Pac III, the 2004M ElectroLynx adapter, or the 2006M plug-in buzzer. Frame prep tooling is separate too, the HESCUT-MTK metal template kit.
15) What finish does the HES 1006CLB Complete Pac come in?
Complete Pacs come in 630 satin stainless only. The wider 1006 series is offered in 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 bronze toned, 629 bright stainless and BLK black, but if you are ordering the CLB one-box pac, plan on 630. On most commercial openings that is the finish already on the frame hardware anyway.
