1) What does the HES 2004M ElectroLynx adapter actually do?
The 2004M is a wire adapter that sits between an existing HES electric strike and an ElectroLynx connector, so the strike's leads land on the quick-connect harness instead of being spliced by hand. It is a component part, not a strike and not a power supply, so it changes nothing about how the strike latches or what voltage it wants.
2) Do I need the HES 2004M if my strike already has ElectroLynx leads from the factory?
No. The 2004M exists to convert a strike that was not born with ElectroLynx onto those connectors. A strike already supplied with the ElectroLynx harness plugs straight into the door loop, and adding the adapter just adds a joint. Buy it for retrofits and for stock strikes you are pulling into an ElectroLynx-wired opening.
3) I need to convert AC to DC at my HES strike, not change the connector. Is the 2004M the right part?
No, that is a different accessory. The 2004M only adapts wiring to ElectroLynx connectors. For AC to unfiltered DC, HES makes the 2001-1 (rated 35 V, 2 Amp) and the 2001M (rated 35 V, 1 Amp, with MOV and self-resettable fuse); neither is recommended for the 1006 strike. For the 1006 specifically, the 2005M3 is the part, and its input voltage must be DC.
4) What else will I need to finish an HES electric strike install besides the 2004M?
Depends on what the opening needs. The metal template kits cover the layout work: HESCUT-MTK for the 1006, 1500, 1600, 4500, 5000, 5200, 7000 and 7501 in 4-7/8 inch ANSI jamb preps, and the 9000-MTK for 9000 series preps. Where there is no jamb cavity, the SMB surface mounting box mounts the strike on the face. The 152 mounts inside hollow metal, wood and aluminum jambs. Fastening is Torx: the 157 screws and the 157D tamper-resistant Torx R20 insert bit. If you want the operator to hear the strike release, the 2006M gives an audible indicator at 24VDC, 75db at 11-3/4 inches.
5) Is the HES 2004M the same thing as a power transformer for an electric strike?
No. The HES 2004M is a wire adapter that connects existing HES electric strikes to ElectroLynx connectors, so it changes how the strike terminates its wiring rather than what voltage reaches it. A transformer such as the Adams Rite 4605, which takes 115 VAC in and puts out 12/24 VAC at 40 volt-amps, is the part that supplies power to the opening. On a job where the strike already has power and you are moving to ElectroLynx quick-connects, the 2004M is the part; where the opening still needs a low-voltage source, that is a transformer's job and the two are typically both present.
6) For getting power across the opening, do I need a 2004M or a mortise pin transfer?
They solve different halves of the run. The HES 2004M adapts an existing HES electric strike to ElectroLynx connectors on the frame side, where the strike sits in the jamb. 7) Is the HES 2004M adapter suitable for a commercial building, or is it a light-duty part?

8) I ordered part number 178731 for an HES strike. Is that the same as the 2004M?
Same part. 178731 is the alternate part number for the HES 2004M ElectroLynx adapter, so a spec or an old purchase order calling out 178731 is calling out this adapter.
9) My strike leads are too short to reach the junction. Does the 2004M give me more wire?
Not its job. The 2004M changes the connector type, not the reach. The HES accessory with wire length behind it is the 2007M, supplied with 4 inch wire leads. If the run is genuinely long, that is a wiring problem to solve at the transfer, not at the adapter.
10) Is there an equivalent to the HES 2004M for other brands of access control hardware?
ElectroLynx is an ASSA ABLOY connector standard and the 2004M is specific to HES strikes, so there is no drop-in equivalent from another brand. 15) Is the HES 2004M ADA compliant?
No, and it is not meant to be. The 2004M is a wire adapter buried in the frame; ADA compliance is a question for the operable hardware on the opening, not for a connector part. Nothing about installing it changes the ADA status of the door.
