HES 7000C COMPLETE ELECTRIC STRIKE PACS WITH LATCHBOLT LOCK

The dual, preload solution for cylindrical latchbolts and rim exit devices. The HES 7000 Series Electric Strike offers two solutions to address preloaded doors. The in-frame adjustable feature allows the installer to easily adjust the electric strike opening to accommodate the horizontal position of the latchbolt after installation. The preload release function allows the electric strike to operate smoothly throughout the year under varying loads on the door caused by air conditioning pressure, changes in the weather, warped doors or doors with weather stripping that may often bind standard electric strikes. This unit accommodates cylindrical latchbolts up to 5/8" throw and rim exit latchbolts up to 3/4" throw.

HES 7000C 630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Our door binds against the strike when the building pressurizes and the strike won't release. Will the HES 7000C solve that?
Preload release is the reason the 7000 Series exists. The HES 7000C keeps releasing under load from air conditioning pressure, weather swings, a warped door, or weather stripping that binds a standard strike. Two features do the work: the preload release function itself, and an in-frame horizontal adjustment that lets the installer shift the strike opening sideways to match where the latchbolt actually sits once the frame is up, instead of chasing it with shims. One condition that catches people out: preload only works in fail secure. The strike is field selectable fail secure or fail safe, so if the spec calls for fail safe you give up the preload capability.
2) Will the HES 7000C electric strike work with a standard cylindrical lockset for a card reader install?
Yes, for cylindrical latchbolts up to 5/8 inch throw. That is the limit HES states for the 7000 Series with the cylindrical faceplate, and the 7000C Complete Pac ships with the 4-7/8 inch plate, which HES lists for cylindrical locksets up to 5/8 inch throw (ANSI/BHMA numbers E09322 and E09323). Most commercial cylindrical locksets throw 1/2 inch, so a standard lever or knob set is comfortably inside that. This is a latchbolt strike only, so a deadbolt is out, and if the lockset throws more than 5/8 inch it needs different hardware.
3) Will the HES 7000C Complete Pac work with a Von Duprin rim exit device?
Not in the Complete Pac form. The 7000C comes with the 4-7/8 inch faceplate, which is the cylindrical lockset plate for latchbolts up to 5/8 inch throw. Rim exit devices with up to a 3/4 inch pullman latch use the other 7000 Series faceplate options: the 783S (9 x 1-3/4 x 11/16 inches) for metal jambs, the 786S (6-1/2 x 1-3/4 x 1/2 inches) for aluminum jambs and surface mounted vertical rod devices, and the 789S (9 x 1-3/4 x 1/2 inches) for aluminum jambs, which includes the keeper pocket adapter. HES lists all three as compatible with American Device, Arrow, Doramatic, Monarch, Precision, Sargent, Von Duprin and Yale devices, with Jackson added on the 786S and 789S. So the strike body handles your exit device, but order it with the right faceplate rather than as the 7000C.
4) Does the HES 7000C lock or unlock when the power fails?
Either way, and you set it in the field rather than ordering it one way. Configured fail secure, the strike stays locked when power drops, so the opening still needs a key or the inside lever to get through. Configured fail safe, it releases and the door pulls open. Two things steer the choice on the 7000: preload release only works in fail secure, so a door that binds under building pressure wants fail secure, and fail safe gives up that capability. Whichever way it is set, egress from the inside is still through the lockset, since an electric strike only controls the keeper side.
5) What is the difference between the HES 7000C and the standard 7000 Series electric strike?
The C stands for Complete Pac, HES's one box version of the 7000 Series strike. Ordering the strike the normal way means picking the faceplate option and the finish separately, with seven finishes on the 791 and 792 plates (630 satin stainless, 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 629 bright stainless, and BLK black) and two on the 783S, 786S and 789S plates. The Complete Pac collapses that into a single part number, and it comes in 630 satin stainless only, with the 4-7/8 inch faceplate. Same strike underneath: stainless body, dual voltage, non-handed, field selectable fail secure or fail safe. If a job needs a bronze or black plate, or a rim exit faceplate, order the 7000 Series pieces instead of the Complete Pac.
6) Should I order the HES 7000C with the LBM latchbolt monitor, and what does it actually do?
LBM is the latchbolt monitor option, and the 7000C Complete Pac is sold two ways: plain, or as the Complete Pac with latchbolt monitor. The monitor reports back whether the latchbolt is genuinely thrown into the keeper, which lets an access control panel or alarm tell a door that is closed and locked from one that has been pushed to and is sitting unlatched. If the system only needs to buzz the door open, the plain Pac is enough. If door status is being monitored at a head end, or the opening is on a perimeter where a door left unsecured matters, take the LBM. It is a model choice at order time, not a part added to the strike later.
7) What voltage and current do I need to size a power supply for the HES 7000 electric strike?
Dual voltage, 12 or 24 VDC or VAC, so it drops onto most existing access control power. Draw is .45 amps at 12 VDC continuous duty, or .25 amps at 24 VDC continuous duty, and running it at 24 volts roughly halves the current, which matters when several strikes share one supply. Wiring is through a plug-in connector at the strike, and the solenoid is mounted internally. HES offers plug-in accessories on the same connector: the 2001M bridge rectifier, the 2004M ElectroLynx adapter, the 2005M3 SMART Pac III, and the 2006M buzzer for an audible release signal.
8) Can the HES 7000C go on a fire rated door or an exterior opening?
No on both. The 7000C is not fire rated and not outdoor rated, and it carries no windstorm rating, so a labeled fire door assembly or a weather-exposed opening needs different hardware. Where it belongs is interior commercial openings in metal or wood frames, and it is a commercial-duty unit rather than residential.
9) I'm replacing an old electric strike and the existing frame cutout doesn't line up. What are my options with the HES 7000?
A retrofit that is off horizontally is the easy case: the 7000 Series adjusts in the frame, so the strike opening can be moved to meet the latchbolt after the unit is in, without re-cutting. 10) How much abuse will the HES 7000 strike take if somebody kicks or pries the door?
1,500 lbs static holding force and 70 ft-lbs dynamic, which is the top of the 7000 Series range. The body is stainless steel and tamper resistant, and the solenoid sits inside the unit rather than in an exposed housing on the frame. On listings and grades: the 7000 Series is UL 1034 burglary-resistant listed and UL 294 listed, and the 791 and 792 faceplate options meet ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1. For a facility standardizing on Grade 1 electrified hardware across a building, that is the configuration to specify.
11) Do I have to specify handing when I order the HES 7000C electric strike?
No handing to call out. The 7000C is non-handed, so the same unit goes on a left hand or right hand opening. Combined with field selectable fail secure or fail safe and dual voltage 12 or 24, one part number covers a lot of different doors, which is the argument for stocking it if a portfolio of buildings is being maintained rather than ordering per opening. Both. HES lists the 7000 Series for metal and wood frame applications, so it suits an interior wood-framed office door as readily as a hollow metal jamb.
