HES 4500C COMPLETE PACS FOR LATCHBOLT LOCKS

The 4500C series electric strike is designed for installation in 2" UL 10C fire-rated frames with 1/2" drywall penetration. The 4500C features a low profile 1-3/8" depth, heavy-duty stainless steel construction. Its strength is derived from a unique keeper pin locking design, enabling the 4500C to exceed the ratings of the frame, door and locking hardware.

Each Complete Pac conveniently pairs the reliabilty of an HES electric strike with the flexibility of multiple faceplates in a single simple package. The 4500C includes a 4500 strike body and two interchangeable faceplates to accommodate most cylindrical and mortise latchbolts (without deadbolts).

HES 4500C 630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the HES 4500C electric strike work with a mortise lock that has a deadbolt?
No. The 4500C Complete Pac is built for cylindrical and mortise latchbolts without deadbolts, and it accepts a latchbolt up to 3/4 inch. If the opening has a mortise lock with a deadbolt, or a separate deadbolt above the lock, this strike is the wrong part for it.
2) How much frame depth do I need to install a HES 4500C strike?
The strike body is 1-3/8 inches deep, which is why it goes into a 2 inch frame with 1/2 inch drywall penetration. That is the whole point of the 4500C: it's a low profile body that fits standard hollow metal frames without cutting into the wall behind them. Faceplate is 4-7/8 inches, body width 1-3/4 inches.
3) Do I have to order the HES 4500C handed, and do I need to pick a faceplate?
Neither. The 4500C is non-handed, so the same unit works on a left or right hand opening, and each Complete Pac ships with the strike body plus two interchangeable faceplates covering most cylindrical and mortise latchbolts. Full keeper shims for horizontal adjustment and a trim enhancer are in the box as well. What you do specify is finish and whether you want monitoring.
4) What voltage and current does the HES 4500C draw, and can I run it on AC?
Dual voltage 12 or 24 VAC/VDC, field selectable, drawing .24 amps at 12V and .12 amps at 24V. Important limit: DC is continuous duty, AC is intermittent duty only. If the strike has to stay energized (fail safe standby, or a buzzer-style AC setup held open), it must be on DC. For AC installs a plug-in bridge rectifier, HES part 2001M, converts it to DC at the strike.
5) Is the HES 4500C strong enough for an exterior entry or a high traffic building entrance?
On strength, yes: 1,500 lbs static, 100 ft-lbs dynamic, 1,000,000 cycle endurance, stainless steel body with a keeper pin locking design, ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1 and UL 1034 burglary resistant listed. What it is not is weather rated. The 4500C is not an outdoor rated strike, so it belongs in a frame that isn't taking direct weather. It also isn't preload capable, so on a door that stacks pressure against the latch (stack effect, closer pressure, wind on a stairwell), the keeper may not release.
6) What is the difference between the 4500C, 4500C-LBM and 4500C-LBSM?
They're the same strike with different monitoring. Plain 4500C has none. LBM adds a latchbolt monitor, which reports that the lock's latchbolt is projected into the keeper, so you know the door is actually latched. LBSM is a latchbolt strike monitor, reporting both latch and strike condition. If the access control panel only needs to release the door, the base 4500C is enough; if you need door position or forced-entry reporting back at the head end, order LBM or LBSM. All three come in all six finishes.
7) Can the 4500C go in a wood frame or does it have to be hollow metal?
Both metal and wood frame applications are covered by the 4500C Complete Pac. The typical application is hollow metal, and HES sells a metal template kit, HESCUT-MTK, for laying out the cutout. A 7/16 inch filler block (4500-131) is available where the prep leaves a gap behind the body.
8) My frame is deeper than the strike lip reaches. What do I add to a 4500C?
Stackable lip extensions. HES offers the 4501-1/2 at 1/2 inch and the 4501-1 at 1 inch, and they stack, so you can build out the lip to meet the door face. Also in the accessory line: 4500-105 trim enhancer in black, 4500-110 replacement strike plate, and the 150 strike latch guard for exposed openings.
9) Which way should I set the 4500C, fail safe or fail secure, for my building?
That's a field selection made at install, not an ordering choice. Fail secure keeps the door locked when power drops (free egress from inside is still by the lock's own lever), which is what a fire rated opening requires and what most exterior and tenant doors get. Fail safe unlocks on power loss, used where the authority having jurisdiction requires the opening to release on alarm. Note the duty limit: fail safe standby means the coil is energized continuously, so that install has to be DC.
10) What finishes does the HES 4500C come in for matching the rest of my door hardware?
Six: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 bronze toned (listed as oil rubbed bronze on the ordering options), 629 bright stainless steel, and 630 satin stainless steel. Every one of those six is available on the base 4500C, the LBM and the LBSM. On a building being standardized, 630 satin stainless is the one that matches most commercial lever and exit hardware.
11) Does the HES 4500C run on Power over Ethernet?
The 4500C is a low voltage strike wired to 12 or 24 VAC/VDC through a plug-in connector, drawing .24 A at 12V or .12 A at 24V. It takes its power from the access control power supply or a PoE-fed panel output, not from a network cable landing at the strike. Size the supply for that draw per opening.
