Houzer 190-9261 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Houzer 190-9261 basket strainer fit a standard 3-1/2 inch sink drain opening?
Yes. The Houzer 190-9261 is built for standard 3-1/2 inch drain openings in kitchen or bar sinks, which is the common US kitchen sink drain size. It drops into the opening rather than being threaded or clamped in, so there is no change to the existing drain assembly.
2) Is the Houzer 190-9261 a complete sink drain assembly or just the removable basket?
It is the removable basket strainer only, not a full drain assembly. You insert it into the existing 3-1/2 inch drain opening and lift it out to empty debris. If your sink needs a new tailpiece, flange and locknut, you need a drain assembly, not this part.
3) What are the actual dimensions of the Houzer 190-9261 strainer?
Measures 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 3 inches. The 4-1/2 inch face is wider than the 3-1/2 inch drain opening it sits in, so the rim rests on the sink deck around the hole while the body drops through.
4) Is a plastic basket strainer durable enough for a rental or multi-family kitchen?
The 190-9261 body is plastic, chosen so it will not chip or fade with repeated use. For property managers, the practical upside is that it will not scratch a composite or porcelain sink the way a metal basket can, and it is cheap to swap out unit by unit. If you want a metal strainer for heavier commercial duty, this is not that part.
5) Will the Houzer 190-9261 match a Quartztone granite or Porcela sink?
It is designed to complement Houzer's Quartztone granite composite, Porcela porcelain enamel steel and fireclay sinks. It is offered in Matte Cloud, so confirm that shade against the sink color you are matching across your openings.
6) Does the Houzer 190-9261 strainer meet plumbing code standards?
It meets ASME 100.19.3-2000 and UPC standards, which is what an institutional or MRO spec typically asks for on a sink strainer.
7) Do I need tools or plumber's putty to install the Houzer 190-9261?
No. It drops straight into the drain opening for a secure fit and lifts back out for cleaning. There is nothing to seal, thread or tighten, so there is no putty, gasket or locknut to order alongside it.
