Houzer 190-9566 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Houzer 190-9566 basket strainer fit a standard 3-1/2 inch sink drain opening?
Yes. The 190-9566 is sized for standard 3-1/2 inch kitchen and bar sink drain openings, which is the common US sink drain size. It drops into the opening rather than needing a separate adapter.
2) Which Houzer sinks does the 190-9566 matte white strainer match?
The matte white finish is intended to blend with Houzer's Quartztone granite composite sinks, Porcela porcelain enamel steel sinks, and fireclay sinks, rather than stand out the way a stainless strainer does. For a property manager standardizing on light-colored composite or fireclay bowls across units, it keeps the drain opening visually consistent.
3) Does the Houzer 190-9566 meet plumbing code standards for a commercial or multi-family job?
Houzer states the 190-9566 meets ASME 100.19.3-2000 and UPC standards. That is the compliance language to put on a submittal for a kitchen sink drain fitting in UPC jurisdictions.
4) Is the Houzer 190-9566 a disposal flange or a strainer basket for an undisposal drain?
Houzer catalogues the 190-9566 as a 3-1/2 inch basket strainer, and the product copy describes it as a disposal flange that seats in the drain opening. It captures debris while letting the sink drain, and lifts out for cleaning.
5) What is the Houzer 190-9566 made of, and will it discolor over time?
It is a plastic component, not metal. Houzer states the material withstands repeated use without chipping or fading, which is why it is offered in a matte white to sit against light-colored sink surfaces instead of a polished metal strainer.
6) Does installing the Houzer 190-9566 require tools or plumber's putty?
No tools called for. It inserts into the drain opening for a secure fit and pulls back out for cleaning, so a maintenance tech can swap one in a unit turn in seconds without getting under the cabinet.
7) Can the Houzer 190-9566 be used in a bathroom or utility sink?
It is specified for kitchen installation and sink application, sized to the 3-1/2 inch kitchen drain. Bathroom lavatory drains are typically 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 inch, so this will not fit one. Bar and prep sinks with a full 3-1/2 inch opening are fine.
8) How big is the Houzer 190-9566 strainer overall?
The outside footprint is 4-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches, so the visible flange rim covers a good margin around a 3-1/2 inch drain cutout. Worth checking against sinks with a shallow or crowded drain well before ordering.
