Houzer 190-9268 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Houzer 190-9268 basket strainer fit a standard 3-1/2 inch sink drain opening?
Yes. The Houzer 190-9268 is built for standard 3-1/2 inch drain openings in kitchen or bar sinks, which is the normal opening size on North American kitchen sinks. It drops straight into the opening, so there is no re-cutting or adapter work on the sink deck.
2) Which Houzer sinks does the 190-9268 strainer match?
The 190-9268 was designed to complement Houzer's Quartztone granite sinks, Porcela porcelain enamel steel sinks, and Houzer fireclay sinks. It is offered in the Matte Midnite finish, so it is the one to pick when you are matching a dark granite or fireclay bowl rather than a brushed stainless one.
3) Does the Houzer 190-9268 strainer meet plumbing code standards?
It meets ASME 100.19.3-2000 and UPC standards, which is the citation an inspector or a spec-driven procurement buyer will want on a sink drain fitting.
4) What material is the Houzer 190-9268 strainer, and will it hold up in a rental kitchen?
It is plastic rather than stainless, and Houzer states it takes repeated use without chipping or fading. For apartment and residential kitchen turnovers that holds up fine, and it lifts out for cleaning. For a heavy commercial kitchen line, a metal strainer body is the better call.
5) How big is the Houzer 190-9268 basket strainer overall?
External dimensions are 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 3 inches. That matters for the space under the basket: the body sits down into the drain, so check you have clearance at the tailpiece on a shallow bar sink before you commit.
6) Is any plumber or tools needed to install the Houzer 190-9268 strainer?
No plumbing work. The basket inserts into the existing 3-1/2 inch drain opening for a secure fit and pulls back out for cleaning, so maintenance staff can swap one in without touching the tailpiece or trap.
