Houzer 190-9264 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Houzer 190-9264 basket strainer fit a standard 3-1/2 inch sink drain opening?
Yes. The Houzer 190-9264 is built for standard 3-1/2 inch kitchen or bar sink drain openings. It drops into the opening rather than needing a special prep, so if your sink has the usual 3-1/2 inch drain hole it will seat.
2) Is the Houzer 190-9264 a replacement basket only, or a full drain assembly?
This is the strainer basket that inserts into the drain opening and lifts back out for cleaning. It is an accessory for an existing 3-1/2 inch kitchen sink drain, not a complete drain body and tailpiece assembly, so if your sink drain itself is failing you need a full strainer assembly instead.
3) What is the Houzer 190-9264 strainer made of, and will it hold up in a rental or multi-family kitchen?
It is plastic, not metal. Houzer states the material resists chipping and fading through repeated use, and the basket lifts out for cleaning. For property managers replacing strainers across units, plastic keeps the look consistent with coloured granite and fireclay sinks, but if you want a metal strainer for heavy commercial traffic this is not that part.
4) Which Houzer sinks does the 190-9264 strainer match?
Houzer lists it as a colour and design match for their Quartztone granite composite sinks, Porcela porcelain enamel steel sinks, and fireclay sinks. The one finish offered is Matte Mocha, so pair it with a sink in that colour family.
5) Does the Houzer 190-9264 meet plumbing code standards?
It is stated to meet ASME 100.19.3-2000 and UPC standards, which is what an institutional or facility buyer usually needs on the submittal for a kitchen sink drain fitting.
6) Can the Houzer 190-9264 be used in a bathroom lavatory sink?
No. It is specified for kitchen installation and sized to 3-1/2 inch kitchen or bar sink drains. Bathroom lavatory drains are a smaller opening and need a different strainer or pop-up.
7) What size is the Houzer 190-9264 basket strainer overall?
The strainer body measures 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 3 inches overall, with the 3-1/2 inch figure referring to the drain opening it seats into. Worth checking against sink bowls with a very shallow or recessed drain area.
