Houzer 190-9265 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Houzer 190-9265 basket strainer fit a standard 3-1/2 inch kitchen sink drain opening?
Yes. The Houzer 190-9265 is built for standard 3-1/2 inch drain openings on kitchen or bar sinks. It drops into the opening rather than needing a separate mounting assembly, and lifts back out for cleaning. Measure the sink opening across the rim before ordering, since anything other than the standard 3-1/2 inch bowl outlet will not seat correctly.
2) Which Houzer sinks does the 190-9265 strainer match?
Houzer calls it out for their Quartztone granite sinks, Porcela porcelain enamel steel sinks, and fireclay sinks, where the color and custom shape are meant to blend with the bowl. It is offered in the Matte Midnite finish, so pair it against a dark bowl if you are matching a fleet of units across several kitchens.
3) Is the Houzer 190-9265 strainer metal or plastic?
Plastic. Houzer specifies a durable plastic body that will not chip or fade with repeated removal and cleaning. That is a different animal from a stainless or brass basket strainer assembly with a locknut and tailpiece, so if your spec calls for a metal drain assembly, this is not the part.
4) Does the Houzer 190-9265 meet plumbing code standards for a commercial kitchen?
Houzer states the strainer meets ASME 100.19.3-2000 and UPC standards. For institutional or multi-family work where the inspector wants a code-listed drain component, those are the two references to put on the submittal.
5) Do I need a plumber to install the Houzer 190-9265 basket strainer?
No. It inserts straight into the 3-1/2 inch drain opening and seats itself, with no putty, locknut, or tailpiece work involved. Maintenance staff can pull it out, empty it, and drop it back in. That makes it easy to standardize across a building where you want the same replaceable part in every unit.
6) Is the Houzer 190-9265 a sink grid or a drain strainer?
It is a basket strainer that sits in the drain opening to catch food debris while water passes through, not a bottom grid that protects the sink floor. If you are after a rinse grid to keep pots off the bowl surface, that is a separate item.
