Houzer 190-9564 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Houzer 190-9564 basket strainer fit a standard 3-1/2 inch sink drain opening?
Yes. The 190-9564 is sized for standard 3-1/2 inch drain openings, which is the normal kitchen and bar sink drain size. It drops into the opening rather than needing a special prep.
2) Is this Houzer strainer metal or plastic?
Plastic. The 190-9564 body is molded plastic finished in Matte Oil Rubbed Bronze, so the bronze look is a molded-in finish rather than a plated metal one. If you need a metal strainer body for heavy commercial use, this is not that part.
3) Does the Houzer 190-9564 meet UPC plumbing code requirements?
It is stated to meet ASME 100.19.3-2000 and UPC. That covers the usual inspection question on a residential or multi-family kitchen sink drain fitting.
4) Will this bronze strainer match a Houzer granite or fireclay sink?
It is made to coordinate with Houzer's Quartztone granite composite sinks, Porcela porcelain enamel steel sinks, and fireclay sinks. For a property manager standardizing across units, the Matte Oil Rubbed Bronze finish is the one to pair with dark granite composite bowls and bronze faucet trim.
5) Is the Houzer 190-9564 a disposal flange or a regular basket strainer?
The description calls it a 3-1/2 inch disposal flange, and it is catalogued as a basket strainer for kitchen sink applications. Either way, it is the drain-opening fitting that captures debris while letting water through, and it lifts out for cleaning.
6) How big is the Houzer 190-9564 overall, and will it clear a shallow cabinet?
External dimensions are 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 3 inches. The 4-1/2 inch face sits over the drain opening, so check that the sink deck around your 3-1/2 inch drain has that much flat area before ordering.
7) Do I need any tools or extra parts to install this Houzer strainer?
No tools called out. It inserts into the 3-1/2 inch drain opening for a secure fit and pulls back out for cleaning, so it is a maintenance-level swap rather than a plumbing job.
