1) What size cabinet do I need for the Houzer CS-1407 bar sink?
An 18 inch cabinet is the minimum for the CS-1407. The sink's outside dimensions are 13-5/8 x 17-3/16 x 7 inches, so you need clear interior width plus room for the mounting clips and the rim bearing on the underside of the counter. On an island prep station, an 18 inch base is the smallest you should plan around.
2) Will a standard 3-1/2 inch kitchen drain and disposal fit the Houzer CS-1407?
The CS-1407 has a 3-1/2 inch center drain opening, which is the standard US kitchen sink size, so standard strainers and disposal flanges land correctly. Center drain placement also keeps the tailpiece in the middle of the cabinet rather than pushed to one side.
3) What is the difference between the CS-1407-1 and CS-1407-C?
Same sink, different package. CS-1407-1 is the bowl on its own. CS-1407-C ships with the basket strainer and the bottom basin grid included. If you are already buying a disposal flange or a separate strainer, the -1 avoids paying twice; if you want the bowl protected from pot scuffs out of the box, take the -C.
4) Can this undermount sink go under a granite or quartz countertop?
Yes, the CS-1407 is built as an undermount and comes with mounting clips and a cutout template, so your fabricator can cut the stone to the template and the sink hangs from the underside of the slab. Houzer also provides undermount installation instructions with it. Note that undermount sinks require a solid surface counter, not laminate.
5) Will the CS-1407 fit the same cutout as the sink I am replacing?
Only if that cutout matches a 13-5/8 by 17-3/16 inch bowl. Undermount cutouts are cut to a specific template, so a swap works cleanly when the old sink shared these outside dimensions. If it does not, the stone has to be re-cut or the opening enlarged, which is fabricator work. Compare your existing cutout to those numbers before you order.
6) Is 18 gauge stainless heavy enough for a commercial or multi-family install?
The CS-1407 is 18 gauge T-304 stainless. T-304 is the chrome-nickel grade used for food service equipment and it resists water, food acid and cleaning chemicals. 18 gauge is heavier than the 20 and 22 gauge bowls common in budget bar sinks, so it flexes and drums less. For a hotel wet bar, breakroom or apartment island, that combination holds up to daily use.
7) Does the Houzer CS-1407 carry a plumbing code listing?
The CS-1407 is IAPMO certified, which is the listing most inspectors and spec writers look for on a plumbing fixture. If you are submitting to a facilities or institutional spec, the spec sheet is the document to attach.
8) Where do I drill the faucet holes for this sink?
Nowhere on the sink itself. The CS-1407 is an undermount with no deck, so the faucet holes get drilled in the countertop or the backsplash behind it. That leaves the hole count and spacing up to you, which is useful when you want a single-hole bar faucet on one job and a faucet plus air switch or soap dispenser on the next.
9) Does this sink sweat or make noise under a thin countertop?
Houzer builds the CS-1407 with a StoneGuard undercoating over a Super Silencer pad on the underside of the bowl. The pad cuts the clatter of glassware and silverware and the undercoating addresses condensation forming under the bowl, which matters when the sink sits inside a closed cabinet.
