1) Will a standard kitchen garbage disposal fit the Houzer CNR-1700 drain?
The drain opening is 3-1/2 inches, which is the standard US disposal opening, so a typical disposal mounting assembly will fit. Note the drain sits at the rear of the bowl rather than center, so plan the P-trap and disposal body position against the back cabinet wall. The sink ships with a basket strainer (190-9180) if you are not using a disposal.
2) Is the Houzer CNR-1700 big enough to use as a main kitchen sink, or is it a prep bowl?
It is a single bowl prep and bar sink. The usable bowl is 15 x 16 inches with a 9 inch depth, which handles a stock pot or a sheet of produce but is tight as a household's only sink. The 9 inch depth is generous for a bar bowl, so it works well as a secondary island or wet bar basin, or as a compact single sink in a breakroom or small unit kitchen.
3) What comes in the box with the Houzer CNR-1700, and what do I still have to buy?
In the box: the sink, a basket strainer (190-9180), a bottom grid (BG-4170), the undermount clips and mounting hardware, a cutting template, and instructions. You still need to supply the faucet, the tailpiece and P-trap, and a disposal flange assembly if you are running one. A matching cutting board (CB-4100) is sold separately.
4) Can the Houzer CNR-1700 be installed under a laminate or butcher block counter, or is it granite only?
It is an undermount sink, so it needs a counter material that can carry the sink weight on a cut edge and be sealed, which in practice means stone, quartz, or solid surface. Laminate is not suitable for undermounting unless the fabricator builds a sealed edge detail for it. The sink comes with mounting hardware and a template plus installation instructions, so the fabricator has what they need to cut and clip it.
5) Will the Houzer CNR-1700 pass inspection on a permitted job?
The CNR-1700 carries IAPMO certification, which is the listing most plumbing inspectors look for on a sink in a permitted install. It is manufactured in Thailand, which matters if your project carries a domestic sourcing requirement such as a government or federally funded contract.
6) Will the corners of this Houzer sink be hard to clean?
