1) What size cabinet do I need for the Houzer CNS-2300 undermount sink?
Plan on a 27 inch minimum base cabinet. The sink itself is 23 by 18 inches overall, so the extra width is what gives you room for the cabinet sides, the mounting clips and the undermount reveal. Anything narrower than 27 inches and you will not get the sink seated under the counter cutout.
2) Will a standard kitchen basket strainer and disposal fit the drain on this Houzer sink?
The drain opening is 3-1/2 inches, which is the standard North American kitchen sink size, so standard 3-1/2 inch basket strainers and garbage disposal mounting assemblies fit. A basket strainer is already in the box, so if you are putting a disposal on the bowl you will not need the strainer that ships with it.
3) What comes in the box with the Houzer CNS-2300, and what do I still have to buy?
Shipped with the sink: a basket strainer (190-9180), a bottom grid (BG-4210), mounting hardware, a cutout template, and installation instructions. Still on your list are the faucet, the drain and trap plumbing, and silicone or adhesive for the counter. A matching cutting board (CB-4100) is sold separately.
4) Can this sink be used with a laminate countertop or does it need stone?
The CNS-2300 is an undermount sink only, with no deck or rim to sit on top of the counter, so it needs a counter material that can carry the sink from below with a finished, sealed cutout edge, which in practice means granite, quartz, solid surface or similar. A standard laminate top is not suitable for an undermount unless it is purpose built for one. If you are working over laminate, specify a top mount (drop-in) sink instead.
5) Where is the drain located on the CNS-2300, and does that affect my plumbing rough-in?
Drain placement is rear. That pushes the tailpiece and trap toward the back of the cabinet, which usually lines up better with an existing wall drain stub and frees up usable shelf space under the bowl. If your current sink drained center or front, expect to re-cut or re-run the trap arm.
6) Is 18 gauge T-304 stainless heavy enough for a rental or commercial break room?
Yes for multi-family and light commercial duty. 18 gauge is the heavier of the two common residential thicknesses (the alternative being 20 gauge), and T-304 is the chrome-nickel grade that resists food acids, cleaners and standing water rather than the cheaper 201 alloys. The included bottom grid also keeps pans off the base, which is what usually scratches a satin finish first in a high-turnover kitchen.
7) Does the Houzer CNS-2300 meet plumbing code approval requirements for a permitted job?

Finish is satin stainless steel, the standard brushed look, in a single configuration with the basket strainer and basin grid. The shape is square with tight 10 mm radius corners, a contemporary profile rather than the softer large-radius bowls on older sinks. If your existing openings use heavily rounded corners, the CNS-2300 will read as a different style even though the finish matches.
